The cable may be causing the pod to spin in the direction of the lay of the cable winding. It should have a big swivel at the top and bottom to allow the cable to “play” freely.

Interesting surmise; but haven't they been lowering stuff already? Would not such a spin have been seen before?

I am worried. Americans drilled the hole two months faster than expected with a drill built in PA.

The Chilean mining company has taken over now. I think they are not as competent. Reminding me of that famous movie where the guy is trapped in Calif desert mine but the story takes on a life of it’s own. They drag out the rescue when they could have gotten him out at any time. It is good for business and the story.

He then collapses and dies. I want to say Kirk Douglas was in the movie.

I had a telephone with an "unkink" device on the cord that attached the handset to the rest of the phone. This allowed the cord to "spin" and unkink itself, and it worked great.
