It's an ornate office in Indiana's beautifully maintained mid-19th-century Capitol, but the 49th governor of Indiana, Mitch Daniels, is not dressed to match the setting. He's just returned from spending the night in Princeton, Ind., staying at a constituent's house -- as he often does around the state -- and he's dressed in a work shirt and jeans.
I've known Mitch Daniels since he was a staffer for Sen. Richard Lugar in the 1980s, and for years he struck me as one of the least likely candidates for public office. He's got strong, mostly conservative convictions; he doesn't suffer fools (and elected politicians) gladly; he doesn't care if others don't like him. All those characteristics were on display when he ran the Office of Management and Budget for George W. Bush between January 2001 and June 2003.

Neither is Barone, but I'm darn sure going to watch him the evening of Nov 2. I'd be happy with a Daniels-Barbour or Barbour- Daniels ticket, either way. And Sarah Palin would be a terrific Secretary of Energy in their administration.
“Not even a Senator”? Being a Senator doesn’t mean you are in any sense more qualified than a Congressman, and being a Congressman doesn’t mean that you are any more qualified than 10 or 15 million other people.
The conventional “qualification” crap is simply propaganda in the service of allowing a small group of sociopaths called “career politicians” to maintain a monopoly on government.
The so-called Independents are mostly former Democrats who got tired of the campaign mail and phone calls.
They have DROPPED OUT of political life, and are only occasional voters

I would agree with that. I’ve talked to a lot of independents this election in Florida and they are turned off to politics, terminally indecisive, and it takes a movement to get them engaged in my opinion. The independents that have drank some tea this election cycle are pumped. The rest are just avoiding politics.

Those haters will be ten-fold as POTUS/CinC. The pressures of that office 100xFold (min). And she just can't "quit". Or make a calculated decision on what is best for her. Perhaps had she stuck it out and faced the wind, as Governor, I would feel more comfortable with her as CinC. As is, I do not.
Not to mention her families weirder by the day obsession with finding ways to get attention. The need for attention is a trait I have never seen work out well for someone in positions of power. Our current POUTS/CinC is just the latest large scale example.
I never mentioned a "single issue" I said the "social issues", your answer was clear enough, you are no conservative.
Why do some betray themselves when they say Palin is not going to run? Did anyone see what she said yesterday in CA? She’s a running, this fantasy that some hope that she doesn’t run for the sake of their candidates and Thune is right that not only he but probably a lot of potentials will have to wait and see what she does because she is going to suck the air out of the room and kill many peoples chances when she runs

As leader of the conservative movement, and a candidate for the Presidential nomination, I think you can't mean the Governor herself.
The only other public figure in the Palin family is the daughter Bristol, that after the media pursued her so relentlessly, became a spokeswoman for pro-life and abstinence causes, a high profile is a big asset for those noble causes, she made lemonade out of the media's lemons.

It's obvious you don't know Mitch. You, like some many others on the forum have twisted his words. Mitch understands that if the financial problems are not addressed in a timely manner the social issues are moot. Is that so difficult to understand?
This statement is from someone that has discussed this issue and many other issues personally with the Governor. One clue...did you know that poverty goes hand and hand with abortion?
BTW...the 2012 election isn't a beauty contest although the Hoosiers thought he was telegenic enough to elect him as Governor.
Daniels is going conservative right now only because America is fed up with moderate Republicans.
His pedigree of being a Lugar staffer and Bush 43 budget director speaks volumes.
He’s another one of the desperate pseudo conservative names being thrown up against the wall from Newt to Rick Santorum to whoever as a way of cutting away support from Sarah Palin.
I am a huge fan of Mitch Daniels!!
If he runs, I will SERIOUSLY consider voting for him in the Primaries. I still hope an even more charismatic consevative who can inspire the country and unify it will emerge. Don’t know who that can be yet.
Bull, he called for unilateral surrender, he called for conservatives to dump conservatism, and only keep portions of the conservative agenda related to economics.
No political leader starts his war by first announcing all the most fundamental conservative causes that he will give up to the liberals first, and not contest them anymore.
Once again you have more than twisted the words of Mitch. Mitch stated his priority as being that of economics. Never did he say he would abandon any social issues.
Without a solid economic base the social issues will NEVER be resolved. Is that so difficult to understand?
The thing I least like about Palin is that she is very polarizing. I can’t take one more polarizing President after Obama. Not to mention that she is not a policy intellect (like a Mitch or Jindal).

Mitch Daniels in effect told America that conservatives are wrong on social issues, that they are merely distractions, and nothing that cannot be set aside indefinitely.
