Scores arrested in Belgrade after anti-gay riot
BBC ^ | October 10, 2010

Anti-gay protesters have fought running battles with police in an effort to disrupt a Gay Pride march in Belgrade - the first in the city since 2001.

Rioters threw petrol bombs and stones at armed police, who responded with tear gas and rubber bullets.

The office of the ruling Democratic Party was briefly set on fire, and at least one shot was fired.

Calm was eventually restored but more than 100 people, mostly police, were injured, with another 100 arrested.

Sunday's march was the first Gay Pride parade in Serbia since a 2001 event was broken up in violent clashes provoked by far-right extremists.'Hooligan gangs'

Before the march, the head of the EU mission in Serbia, Vincent Degert, addressed around 1,000 gay activists and their supporters who gathered at a park in downtown Belgrade surrounded by riot police and armoured vehicles.

"We are here to celebrate the values of tolerance, freedom of expression and assembly," Mr Degert told the crowd.

While the Gay Pride parade was moving though the city, several hundred protesters began chanting at those taking part as they tried to get close to the march.

"The hunt has begun," the AFP news agency reported them as saying. "Death to homosexuals."

Reports told of gangs of skinheads roaming the streets, throwing petrol bombs and setting off firecrackers as police battled to hold them back.

Thousands of police had sealed off central Belgrade to protect the event.

While the march took place in a heavily-protected area in and around Majek park, violence flared at several points further afield in central Belgrade.

Having lived just south of Belgrade as a child, there are no ‘clero-facists’. The people of Serbia have very traditional values and a great respect for the old ways. Homosexuality is seen as a ‘greek abomination’ and something that is not welcome to their traditional culture.

I’m surprised it didn’t get more violent than it did. You don’t P*** off a Serb.

Two issues:

1. I was speaking of theological liberalism as the context will bear out. It really was not on the radar screen as anything significant until early in the last century.

2. The word “liberal” has changed meaning in terms of politics. (But, to repeat, I wasn’t speaking of it politically.)

For what it’s worth, I have never had any position of any kind at any time on FR. I’ve always been a regular poster and nothing else.

The only reason I’ve never commented on trumandogz is because I’ve never bumpted into a trumandogz post that got my goat. If tdgz is running around being a pro-liberal, pro-gay advocate on FR, he’ll eventually get found out.

You sound as if you want tdgz zotted for that kind of pro-homosexual activity. Sometimes it’s a suspension of a week or two and sometimes it’s permanent. I have no idea how that kind of things gets decided. For all I know, mainsail will be back in a few days.

All I know is that it isn’t friendly to join a conservative forum and begin bashing “clero-fascists” and making pro-gay pride comments. It just might appear out of order.

Wow, sounds like I missed all the excitement.
Just wanted to say that every time I see the
headline I read it as:

The Boston Massacre happened some 5 years before Lexington and Concord, and none other than John Quincy Adams represented the defense of the British soldiers charged.

Actually, it was his father, John Adams who represented the soldiers (John Quincy Adams was about three at the time).

Otherwise, this was an excellent post!

Umm, that is just factual incorrect; no matter how you define liberalism it is much older then 100 years; Marxism is older then 100 years as well. it is probably the easiest to date it to Leviathan by Hobbes, which would make liberalism about 360 years old.

I would agree that leftist liberalism (as opposed to classical liberalism) was first written about as a theory a few hundred years ago.

I would contend that this was first put into real action during the French Revolution, particularly the Reign of Terror. However, some semblance of sanity eventually returned, though France has never really been stable since.

The year 1848 was pivotal in Europe, the entire continent was on the verge of revolution and Marx published "The Communist Manifesto," Ultimately the revolutions collapsed, but the ruling houses of Europe remained terrified thereafter.

A decade later, Darwin published "The Descent of Man" and this was the first leftist assault to be masquerade as science rather than philosophy. It was immediately obvious that Darwinism was an attack on Christianity, but nobody at the time understood that it was the foundation of what has been the left's deadliest aspect BY FAR.

However, as xzins pointed out, the first widespread attacks by the left began just over a century ago. The anarchy movement of the late 19th century was a catalyst for both World War I and the Russian Revolution and all of this laid the groundwork for World War II and the Cold War.

I’m not even going to bother touching the rest.

You really need to explain what you mean by this.

Me neither. Some zotted Darwinist troll called me the "Grand Inquisitor of Free Republic" a few years back, but that's about it.

Good for the anti-homo movement. Some are finally standing in open opposition to the deviant crowd. Why should cops be forced to protect perverts?

Modern liberalism has its roots in the early 1900’s eugenics movements alongside the Lenin/Trotsky form of communism.
It is a conglomerate of evil borrowed from lots of places.
Your post is factually incorrect.

Nothing like a little “unpeaceful civil disobedience”. Good for them!

While it is the job of the civil magistrate (in a Christian society) to be a “minister of God to men for good”, it’s obvious as to which side the government of Serbia is on (and it’s not on the side of God and His laws.).

Quite ironic. That thug is running away from the police as if he were a little girl.

Speaking of children: Where were the sodomites while this was going on?

Obviously out molesting little boys.
