Those were very different as invading armies vs. local armies, etc... In the time of terrorism, all the troops needed are in place stoked by the relentless stupidity and eventually revenge for slain family and friends.
This would be a much longer and a more vicious conflict with simmering long end, if it ever ends. It won't be a couple of armies are fighting in distant places.
