You have your typical "redneck"(Sawyer), "Conservative"(Shannon), "religious wacko"(John Locke), and the rest of the cast and motley crue of social rejects and garden variety criminals.

You're reading a lot of things into the series that aren't there, and your impressions of the characters you name are pretty far off. "Lost" was by no means a perfect series, but political ideology wasn't the point of the story.

They didn't go overboard with the political ideology as most shows do these days, but it was there. I was particularly disgusted by their explanation of Sayid's introduction to the business of torture. The Iraqi Republican Guards were some nasty folks - basically just Saddam's evil henchmen, and things like torture and rape were a way of life for them, but the writers of Lost make the Americans responsible for forcing Sayid to become a torturer? Really? I can't describe how much BS that is. And it didn't even make sense within the context of the story - they forced it in because that's how they see the world.
