"State of emergency declared in North Carolina," the WECT News 6 headline informs us. "Governor Bev Perdue has declared a State of Emergency for North Carolina in anticipation of Hurricane Earl's arrival."

From blogger John Jacob H:

"Upon Governor Beverly Perdue’s declaration of a State Of Emergency on September 1, 2010 Dove Hunters, Concealed Carry Handgun Licensees, Target Shooters and all other gunowners cannot possess, transport or use firearms off their personal property as per N.C. Gen. Stat. § 14-288.7"

Here's what the statute says:

"§ 14?288.7. Transporting dangerous weapon or substance during emergency; possessing off premises; exceptions.

"(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, it is unlawful for any person to transport or possess off his own premises any dangerous weapon or substance in any area:

*I wouldn’t expect anybody to comply with this “law”.*

It seems to me that if an honest citizen DID have his gun with him an honest judge would throw the case out since the nonsensical law is against the constitution.

*That’s what gets me. It is a safety issue to leave your guns behind. Not only for you but how do you ensure they don’t wind up in criminals’ hands once you’re gone?*

I’m REAL glad the leaders of NC aren’t leading our military!

What a poor strategy

This is an old article.

The 2nd Amendment Foundation has already sued the State of NC over this, in the City of King case.

I continued to carry during the so-called "emergency", and so did my friends. And lots of people went ahead and went out for the first day of dove season, which occurred during the "emergency."

“Didn't you get the memo”.
“Conservative’s October surprise”.

commieCrat states = Red states
patriot states = Blue states

This notion has had much discussion here on FR in last 2 weeks. There is a need to get more folks to be presenting this idea to any media sources and to their contacts list.

So your post would read “NC is a Red state now that lots (no possessive apostrophe) of northern ...”

N.C. is the most gun un-friendly state in the South. You even have to get a permission slip from your local sheriff before you are allowed to buy a handgun.

Lots of libs moved in when tobacco moved out.

So what are gun owners who are evacuating supposed to do? Leave their guns behind at home for looters The New Orleans Police to get them?

There....I fixed it.

Oh, hey; it's already legally invalid.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE CONSTITUTION
ARTICLE I - DECLARATION OF RIGHTS
Sec. 5. Allegiance to the United States.

Every citizen of this State owes paramount allegiance to the Constitution and government of the United States, and
no law or ordinance of the State in contravention or subversion thereof can have any binding force.

“Didn't you get the memo ??”.
“Conservative October surprise”.

see my other post on this thread.
commieCrat state = Red state
patriot state = Blue state

NC is clearly a commieCrat state (aka, Reds).
In the discussions on this matter here at FR the notion that everyone knows that commies=Red.

It was 10 years ago that the RedMedia decided to give their fellow travelers a propaganda cover and just decided by their selves to change the natural understanding AND NO ONE OBJECTED THEN.

Well now we are objecting and without notice to our enemies [aka, Red LameSM] we Patriots/TeaPartisans have made the switch - hence the humor >
“Didn't you get the memo ??” - takeoff from Batman Origins.

I am sure that the police also have to leave their weapons back at the station when they have to go out or abandon an area during an emergency. You know, they are TRAINED to use these weapons, they could be even MORE of a danger being armed during an emergency...

Well that makes it easier for the Cops and NG to steal them after you’ve evacuated as happened here after Katrina.

Well, then I guess you’ve got to take your bike ... tire irons and gasoline both qualify as “Transporting dangerous weapon or substance”. ‘course you’ve got to take the chain off your bike.

Interesting saying; I haven’t heard it before.
It’s in reference to the ability to be vindicated in court vs. the inability to “get out of” an arrest or ‘detainment’, correct?

“Across the river in Mississippi where law abiding citizens exercised their Second Amendment rights, there was very little trouble. You decide.”

I’m trying to track down a story about a sheriff in Louisianna, I think, who stationed his armed deputies at the countyline - don’t know where but it had to be somewhere near New Orleans - and refused to allow the feds into his county after Katrina.

Have you any knowledge of this?
