Former NRA President Heston also supported banning guns. He did not believe that any citizen should be able to own an 'assault rifle'.
Heston on 6 May 1997: "…the fire power of these weapons is far more than a hunter or a homeowner would need. Why is it necessary to have those guns available anyway?"
NRA President Heston even supported the Brady Bill. How's that for a tough 2nd Amendment Supporter, siding with the Brady gang?

Look, I too want to be the only one on the block with a real assault weapon but we've got some embassy guys around here and they have what look to be portable mini-guns they can mount on their armored SUVs.
Uncle Sam needs to give me something much more powerful to meet the local demands.
