MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The owner of Alabama's largest casino, four state senators and several top lobbyists have been indicted on federal charges accusing them of vote buying on a bill to legalize electronic bingo.
The indictment was released Monday as FBI agents made arrests at several locations across the state.

Oh, and by the way....if you read the Federal Indictment, the Alabama State Government is not listed as a defendant. It is not an investigation of the Alabama State Government. It is an investigation of individuals, who are being charged with committing several Federal crimes. The Alabama State Government has not been charged with anything.
OK. Of these were federal funds, then fine. Though why would federal money be involved in it is beyond me.
...and, the R has was already removed form the ballot for supporting the Dem candidate (Bobby Bright) for Congress.
Can you give me a link for where you are reading? It sounds as if you are reading a different indictment. In the Federal indictment that I am reading, no charges or investigations have been placed against the State government. The Indictment I am reading lists individuals that committed a Federal crime. Some of them happen to be employees of the Alabama State Government. But the Alabama State Government has not been named in the Indictment that I am reading. Are you seeing a separate indictment somewhere else for that? I would like to read it, as well.
I didn’t mean the entire government. I meant that this should be crime for a state to resolve. Vote buyoffs regarding bingo in Alabama? Yeah, I can see the feds interest in this.
Just a question.....have you read the actual indictment?
Let me guess...Karl Rove was behind this one, too. According to former Alabama Governor Don Seigelman (D-Federal Prison), Rove masterminded his prosecution and conviction.
“The Architect” must have a thing for Democratic pols in the great state of Alabama.
When a state takes federal money, it comes with strings attached. This particular string connects right to the DOJ.
Constitutional? I have my doubts.
Yep. Did you see the flimsy BS reason the feds justified their involvement?
Which flimsy reason are you talking about? I see an indictment that lists charges for several federal crimes. I’m still thinking you must be looking at something different. Where are you seeing yours?
Still, the Montgomery Advertiser website is running a picture of her speaking to a Tea Party event...
The justification is right near the top. It says the State of Alabama recieves more than $10K in federal assistance.
There is no reason whatsoever for the feds to stick their nose into this. They could and should however, arrest most of the US COngress and Senate for taking ‘bribes’ every bit as egregious and then some, to vote the way they do.
Do you have to be from Muntgummery tom know that one?
Geddie used to be a partner in a lobbying firm with Joe Fine, who once ran for Attorney General. They are D locks
Not that it matters, of course...a bum is a bum, lol! Just a shame that the "bad ones" are everywhere, and across "party lines"...
It's of interest to me because we have a huge corruption scandal/Fed. indictments going on in Cleveland Ohio right now, too, but our whole county has been in the death-lock grip of the Democrat party for 2 decades or more, so all the bad guys up here are from that party, and won't wreck the electability (sic) chances for the conservative "good guys", at least state-wide, who currently are all GOP'ers up here...
Do not lose heart in any case..."change we can believe in" is coming this election year, methinks! ;)
