CNN released this statement today:
Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.
They will broadcast CNN Newsroom from 3-5pm for the foreseeable future.
Heres more from the story earlier today: CNNs Rick Sanchez is not happy with being made fun of constantly on The Daily Show and Colbert Report. It is from this jumping off point that he absolutely unleashed on Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, and at times his own network, on Pete Dominicks satellite radio show yesterday.
The big takeaway Sanchez calls Stewart a bigot, then walks it back a bit, and he implies CNN is run by Jews.
Not only was Sanchez an a-hole, but he was stupid and a terrible journalist (journalist being no requirement for CNN employment).
Good riddance.
Yah it’d be funny if he turned up on FNC preachin the tea party gospel.
ROFL
I don’t think I’ve ever seen this guy. Maybe he could replace Olberman?
I never understand the people who cry racism all the time and then they turn around and do it to someone else. I am who I am and am proud of who I am and anyone who doesn’t like me....well....tough! Everyone else should take the same attitude. Enough of the races already. If you want to get along you get along...if not then that’s the way it is. Grouping people and making blanket statements is getting real old. People are tired of it and not taking it anymore thus...Sanchez is fired. What did he expect? I’m sick of people thinking they are victims all the time. Get up and move it out. Work hard. Put all that other stuff away and make a good life for yourself and family. Sanchez was very, very foolish. There goes his career. His own doing.
Well Rick, we have some good news and some bad news.
The good news is that we found the weakest link.
That’s cold.
and dang funny!
Hard to believe people still waste their time with TV news, when most have a computer.
looks like MSLSD found their guy to replace special Ed..
Brutal :)
Another Friday non news cycle firing.
Picture a semi-intelligent 15 year old in a 50 year old's body trying to do the news and you have a pretty good idea what he's like.
As a foil, I would take Sanchez over Alan Colmes or Bob Beckel...so Hire the guy Fox and fire one or both of the former.
Mediaite, HotAir.com, and Politico on Friday all highlighted Sanchez’s anti-Stewart remarks and his questionable statements about Jews. Dominick, on his own website, gave additional details about how the CNN anchor not only targeted apparent prejudice against him from “top brass” at CNN: “Sanchez’s example was an illustration that the problem of racism in the media business goes further than many expect, enveloping ‘not just the Right,’ but also ‘elite, Northeast establishment liberals’ that ‘deep down, when they look at a guy like me, they see a guy automatically who belongs in the second tier, and not the top tier.’” This isn’t a surprising characterization from Sanchez, who sees himself as in the “middle” or “not ideological.”
Dominick, who once worked with Stewart on The Daily Show, posted three clips from the interview on his website, and 10 minutes into the second clip, the standup comedian tried to explain his trade to the anchor, that comics don’t think about people’s feelings when they make fun of them, but only think about being funny. Sanchez didn’t buy this, and made a claim about how he operates [audio clip available here]:
He and Helen Thomas can console each other on Stormfront.
“Or selling erectile dysfunction aids on 3am infomercials.”
I can see it now..... “See... see what happens... see what happens
when you rub this stuff all over your body?”
