When “offended” by the owner of a BRAND NEW ‘Hi-mileage’ little car over my wasting of resources and $$$$$ with my 1992 Olds station wagon, I bet him $10.00 my per-mile cash outlay was much, much less than his.
We BOTH listed monthly car payments (me-none), car insurance (mine 25% of his), depreciation (mine $1.25 per month), excise taxes (mine at $42.50), repairs ( I put $1035 into car 9 months ago), gas usage (mine more of course).
When dividing 10,000 miles into out TOTAL cash OUTLAYS, my per-mile outlay was embarassingly lower than his.
We were at my marina, and I’d heard him wishing he could afford a boat, but no way could he think of it.
The final blow came when I pointed out my “all paid for” sailboat at its slip.

Funny how the facts don’t seem to matter to the Greenies, eh?

I also drive 2 older vehicles.

Get lots of comments like you got. Even had a neighbor tell me he would pay me $1000 to ‘put my 1979 Buick staion wagon out of it’s misery”. I told him- SURE- Just as soon as you can find me a replacement car for $1000.

Last time he mentioned it.

Parts are cheaper & easier to install. I can still do all my own light maintenance, like change oil & all filters & spark plugs. When it gets beyond my abilities, local mechanic does stuff for me & nothing is computerized & out of sight expensive.
