SHIKARPUR, Pakistan – Suspected militants in southern Pakistan set ablaze at least 27 tankers carrying fuel for U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan on Friday, police said.

The attack followed the Pakistani government's decision to shut a vital border crossing in apparent protest of a NATO incursion that killed three of its soldiers, and further underscored the risks posed to Western forces who rely heavily on land routes in Pakistan to supply their troops.

Very significant news, and I also put up an article from the BBC, giving some other details.

Supply lines can be the weak link. They are what brought down the French in Indo-China.

I was the first to post this news the other night on FR. Secondly, this maybe the first show across the bow from Pakistan.

Yikes, how in the world would they get close enough to set fire to that many oil tankers? Aren’t they guarded?

NO. Pakistan has said it will no longer guard them after a NATO helicopter chased insurgents into Pakistan and took out the garbage!

Also, we recently just killed Al-Qaeda #3 in Pakistan. Pakistan has long denied or claimed that it is hiding, partially hiding, supporting, or just burying their heads in the sand in regards to Al-Qaeda making nice little hideouts in their country. Pakistan is implicit with these thugs and the evidence is mounting.

First to post that the supply line has been taken down as an option... not that they were attacked. Pakistan stated the other night they would not allow supplies to go into Afghanistan, and they also said they would not guard them.

I think the guards are all dead. It is a high risk job. There have been lots of attacks on the fuel tankers.

This article says that there is still a border crossing open in SW Pakistan which NATO can use, but the problem of protecting these fuel and supply convoys is a huge ongoing challenge.

Pakistan is a hellhole of jihadist scum. Don’t know that anything can really be solved in Afghanistan so long as the Taliban and Al Qaeda, other jihad terror groups etc., enjoy sanctuary in Pakistan.

“So long as the Taliban, Al Qaeda, and other jihad terror groups etc. enjoy sanctuary in Pakistan, NOTHING can really be solved in Afghanistan.”

With a slight alternation.

Without dealing with this, Afghanistan is a waste of lives of good soldiers.

Significant news, but not as bad as when I though that tankers meant those big seagoing tankers. In fact it was a convoy of tanker trucks parked in a public area. The raiders chased the drivers away and no one was killed. One suggestion is that it is part of an insurance scam. Thoughts, opinions?

Not just sanctuary, but strict Islamic indoctrination from boyhood in Pakistani madrasahs.

Less than ten months left to the war.
