Insofar as I can read publicly available poll data and do arithmetic, sure.
New York independent voters are generally somewhat liberal on social issues and generally more conservative on fiscal and law and order issues.
Democrats beat Republicans in registration pretty handily in New York, so Republicans need to win independents.
Giuliani, D'Amato and Pataki were quite successful electorally with this strategy.
Independent voters in NY do not think the infidelities of candidates are a big deal and they are willing to overlook them in favor of bread-and-butter issues like jobs and taxes.
On that front, Paladino absolutely destroys Cuomo. That is his way to win the hearts and minds of NY independents.
Back-and-forth accusations of infidelities, conspiracies, etc. make independents want to stay home.
And if they do, Cuomo wins.
Paladino needs to get back to the bread and butter.
