They did it because they were going to lose the vote. The GOP had enough Democrat support to pass their alternative that would of extended all the tax cuts.
So rather the do the will of the people, the Progressive Fascist Democrat leadership in the Congress punted.

the Progressive Fascist Democrat leadership in the Congress punted. They haven't done a budget, either. I suppose since the Fed is printing money like it's going out of style there is no longer a need for a budget?

Why wouldn't the Dems at least put the middle income tax cuts to a vote before the election? If it passed, they could look like tax cutting heros, and if it failed they could blame the Republicans.
I believe that they didn't want to extend the tax cuts for ANYBODY. Nothing else makes sense.
