China is really flexing its muscles. Reports of slowdowns at customs for imports and exports to and from Japan. This continues long after the fishing captains release.

China got the captain back. Now wants an apology and reparations.

Japan should close their ports to Chinese goods and vessels.*Then* the Butchers of Bejing will start singing a different tune.

Japan wants to have it both ways.
They've essentially evicted 8,500 Marines (with 9,000 dependents to follow) from Okinawa to Guam, yet they want a closer relationship with the US when it comes to China and NK.

IMHO three countries in Asia we should deal with in a leery fashion. Japan, Vietnam and China. When Japan was riding high in the 1970’s, the true nature of her elites were coming out. They laughed at the US and proclaimed their academic superiority to us. Their tourists armed with new wealth would come to the US and cut in service lines. It was their way of revenging for WW2. Sony started to muscle into US movie productions of WW2 demanding rewrites on history implying Japan had no choice but to bomb Pearl Harbor because of US attempts to contain her from resources and imports.
Vietnam during and after the war took every turn to humiliate us. Tortured our POW’s, remind us at every opportunity that we lost the war and used our MIA/dead as bargaining chips for money and reparations. They changed their tune when their benefactor the Soviet Union collapsed.
China is going thru her ultra nationalistic phase trying to prove to the world that she is a power to be respected and would not hesitate to use the US as a doormat. Her support of the murderous regime in NK illustrates her lack of humanity. Her role in proliferating nuclear weapons in the Islamic world would lead to terrorists gaining such weapon and China will have blood on her hands for supporting terrorist mass murder.
If it was up to me, be the monkey on the rock watching two lions fight. Let China, Japan and Vietnam go for it. If I was king for the day, I would sell guns to all sides, not enough to win but enough to keep all sides fighting. Pay back baby, let them bleed and our cash registers ringing. Granted our manufacturing is lot smaller then in the past, but if the largest manufacturing and computer chip center of the world is incinerated by fighting in Asia, we may become the sole manufacturing center again just like post WW2. This time we aim to keep it that way and the first CEO that proposes to offshore our production, shoot the evil fxxk!!

This will not be solved by apologies. This will not be solved by conflict. Decisions made will reach for solutions, but this area continues to remind me of something I would rather not dwell on. China is arming, of this there is no doubt. Japan may be doing the same. I haven’t a clue, but there is a tension, in this region, which is rising. Tensions worldwide are rising. Outcomes, more often than not, produce not goods and services, but something far more sinister. A study of history, which is all that’s necessary should tensions rise to a boil, then a boil over create conclusions. No outcome or conclusion is ever clear. Therefore, no apology, will defuse this area, and thus far decisions made have exacerbated all parties involved....imho

I feel rising tensions also. Not only in Asia, but in Europe over moslem immigration, in the middle east, and in the United States. Things are coming to a boil, but don't be afraid to talk about it. It's going to happen whether you talk about it or not.

Japan keeps getting pushed around by China and North Korea. Since these are two nuclear powers and it would take Japan about 30 minutes to go nuclear, how long do you think it will be before Japan gets the bomb?

I agree with your assessment. Thirty minutes or less would be my guess. Proliferation has its own life, in this day and time...imho
