A testy U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry yesterday blamed clueless voters with short attention spans for the uphill battle beleaguered Democrats are facing against Republicans across the nation.
We have an electorate that doesnt always pay that much attention to whats going on so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or the truth or whats happening, Kerry told reporters after touring the Boston Medical Center yesterday.
Conservative political blogger William Jacobson, who writes Legal Insurrection, immediately pounced on Kerrys comments, saying that attitude is why voters are looking to shake up Capitol Hill by electing upstart candidates such as U.S. Sen. Scott Brown.
It just continues the Democrats theme that the reason people are upset is because they dont understand. Theyre not smart enough. That sort of rhetoric just gets people even more upset, said Jacobson.
Democratic consultant Phil Johnston, former chairman of the state party, jumped to Kerrys defense, saying, Thats absurd. Hes just making the point that people have real lives to lead and most people are not spending a lot of time worrying about politics, particularly in a tough economy. Ive known John Kerry for 35 years and he doesnt look down on people.
Kerry made the remarks on voters following questions about U.S. Rep Barney Franks re-election campaign and queries about securing federal funding for the Hub hospital.
I think a lot of the anger today - while its appropriate because Washington is broken - is not directed at the right people, said Kerry. Barney is prepared, as others are, to explain what were doing. I think when people hear the facts and they see what were doing, it frankly makes sense.
In the interview, Kerry added that voters should be mad at stonewalling Republicans and big money in politics instead, referring to a bill blocked by Republicans Thursday that would reveal corporate and union leaders who fund big-bucks political ads.
He went on to blame the legislative logjam in Washington, D.C., for fewer federal dollars sent to the state.
John Feehery, a Washington D.C.-based Republican consultant, said Kerrys comments mark yet another embarrassing stumble for the gaffe-prone senior senator. In 2006, the former presidential candidate had to apologize for a statement he made at a California college that U.S. students who did not study hard and stay in school would end up stuck in Iraq.
I think that arrogance sums up why John Kerry didnt get elected president, Feehery said. Hes out of touch.
Yup...and btw don’t forget Obama practically plagiarized Patrick’s speeches, not just the “together/yes we can” bit
but the “just words?” bits
He’s saying that there is not enough uninformed voters. That’s the way I understood it.
Kennedy is dead. No one to run his opinions by. Kennedy would have slapped him up side the head and said ARE you F-ing Crazy, you can’t say that!!!!
My question is, how do they expect to woo voters by calling them stupid? Maybe they think the voter will decide to vote 'rat just to prove to himself he's not stupid. If so that is a very long shot as far as making any numerical difference. Most voters will feel insulted and react negatively, if at all.

Just a gigolo
‘John Kerry: Democrats woes stem from uninformed voters’
Actually it’s true. The ‘uninformed voters’ listened to and voted for the nonsense from the Democrats and turned the show over to them.
We’re about to change that.
“Kerry is accusing the opposition of doing what the democrats do.”
The Dims have been doing this for decades!
Entertaining comment made at website:
“Evening at Chez Kerry:
(limo door slams, Long John enters, throws self down dejectedly on $27,000 chaise lounge made by aboriginals from free range ostriches that committed suicide in the wild)
Tereza: What’s the matter, Snookums?
Kerry: It’s those stupid voters! They are reading things on the internet and finding out what we are doing! Oh for the good old days when they had to get all their information from the NYT and Dan Rather!
Tereza: Here, have some Dom, that’ll cheer you up. And you know how I’ve wanted a little pied a terre in Chamonix? Why don’t we buzz over and see what Phillipe has to show us?
Kerry: No! You know how I hate mansion shopping, and can I even get a mention in the Huff Post about how I had the Gulfstream re-tooled to burn a custom mixture of Absolut and balsamic? No. Makes me want not even to jet around continuously any more. I’m saving the planet by myself and all they write about is that awful Scott Brown.
Tereza: Oh Honey, you’ll get over it. The pigeons in this state always send you back for another 6 years. And they better. I thought I was going to be First Lady. Our deal is no allowance for you unless you are at least Senator.
Kerry: Stupid voters, all worried about money. For no reason! Just do like I did and marry two heiresses, then they’ll have no worries. Jeez, what’s so hard about that? I pulled myself up by the bootstraps, you know. I was sleeping in the Camaro and dating Morgan Fairchild, and then when ol’ Heinzie bought the farm, a quick “I do” and then, presto, six mansions and a tax-free yacht. Easy.
Tereza: I thought we agreed not to talk about my, er, our, fortune that way.
Kerry: Sorry, you’re right. Stupid voters. If those idiot white people in Ohio had just done what the shop steward told them to, we’d be LOLing at 1600 right now, midway through my triumphant second term. Instead I’m here with Howie Carr making fun of me and the whole Congress about to get tossed. Stupid voters! Stupid voters!
Tereza: Honey, calm down, let’s go over to the Capital Grille and you can pretend to be bothered by all the attention. I know you love it so.
Kerry: Oh, ok, ok, have Jamal bring the limo around.
(fade out)”
Yeah, Democratic constituencies are SO SMART John
A product no doubt of that great urban public school system you all dominate
What a joke this POS is
This is how arrogant the left is. It is the exact opposite, the dems problems is a direct result that people know the truth now. More information will just make it worst for them.
It’s obvious that we’re just not nuanced enough to understand what they’re trying to do for us.
>>liberal talkradio show
I remember the schadenfreude I got when I tuned to
what was then Boston’s liberal talk station (now it’s
Rush Radio 1200) in 2004 and Al Franken and friends sounded
down—no, they sounded like they hadn’t slept in days—
just after the election, going over the ways that Bush
could have cheated to win and how they could try to fight it.
Franken did his show from the Boston area during the election, expecting a big Kerry win. What happened—
well, google “Kerry party turns to tears, bitterness”
to see what happened.
Bush voters were called stupid back in ‘04; remember that headline in a British paper “HOW COULD 59,000,000 PEOPLE
BE SO STUPID?” after that election
ha!

Memories of Teresa in ‘04:
—trying to start a chant of “four more months!” (a la
“four more years”) as in, when she would become First Lady
—speaking to reporter (IIRC from Pitt. Trib Review) from
Pitt. paper after he ACCURATELY quoted her on something from
a speech: “You said something I didn’t say, now shove it.”
(Going back to audio/video of her speech: she HAD said it!)
No He f___ed around in Vietnam, but in no sense served there.
Perfect SNL skit. Never happen.
Obama Administration:
“John, we need you out there saying the opposite of what’s happening.”
“groupthink, John, groupthink, never forget it’s all about keeping our base from discovering the truth.”
Yo gigilo, you’ve got it backwards, it’s because the citizens ARE informed that the dems are having difficulty - YOU are the one who is uninformed.
