John Kerry: Democrats’ woes stem from uninformed voters
Boston Herald ^ | 9/24/10 | Hillary Chabot

Posted on 09/25/2010 8:00:39 AM PDT by raccoonradio

A testy U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry yesterday blamed clueless voters with short attention spans for the uphill battle beleaguered Democrats are facing against Republicans across the nation.

“We have an electorate that doesn’t always pay that much attention to what’s going on so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or the truth or what’s happening,” Kerry told reporters after touring the Boston Medical Center yesterday.

Conservative political blogger William Jacobson, who writes Legal Insurrection, immediately pounced on Kerry’s comments, saying that attitude is why voters are looking to shake up Capitol Hill by electing upstart candidates such as U.S. Sen. Scott Brown.

“It just continues the Democrats’ theme that the reason people are upset is because they don’t understand. They’re not smart enough. That sort of rhetoric just gets people even more upset,” said Jacobson.

Democratic consultant Phil Johnston, former chairman of the state party, jumped to Kerry’s defense, saying, “That’s absurd. He’s just making the point that people have real lives to lead and most people are not spending a lot of time worrying about politics, particularly in a tough economy. I’ve known John Kerry for 35 years and he doesn’t look down on people.”

Kerry made the remarks on voters following questions about U.S. Rep Barney Frank’s re-election campaign and queries about securing federal funding for the Hub hospital.

“I think a lot of the anger today - while it’s appropriate because Washington is broken - is not directed at the right people,” said Kerry. “Barney is prepared, as others are, to explain what we’re doing. I think when people hear the facts and they see what we’re doing, it frankly makes sense.”

In the interview, Kerry added that voters should be mad at stonewalling Republicans and “big money” in politics instead, referring to a bill blocked by Republicans Thursday that would reveal corporate and union leaders who fund big-bucks political ads.

He went on to blame the legislative logjam in Washington, D.C., for fewer federal dollars sent to the state.

John Feehery, a Washington D.C.-based Republican consultant, said Kerry’s comments mark yet another embarrassing stumble for the gaffe-prone senior senator. In 2006, the former presidential candidate had to apologize for a statement he made at a California college that U.S. students who did not study hard and stay in school would end up “stuck in Iraq.”

“I think that arrogance sums up why John Kerry didn’t get elected president,” Feehery said. “He’s out of touch.”

Meant as a simple slogan to lash out at the fact that people are informed enough to know things have been an epic disaster with Demonrat control so this is all they can do is lash out with their typical rhetoric to try and convince themselves and those still not informed that things really aren’t how they are and have some more of their BS. Their weakness is when people finally do become informed and are not susceptable to their lies and same ‘ol, same ‘ol rhetoric.

I hope the Dems continue to believe this. Like Michael Savage says, liberalism truly is a mental disorder.

“YES WE CAN” indeed.

John F’n Kerry was GREATLY responsible for foisting Usuck Obama upon us by shoving him on the stage in 2004 as his warm-up act..and then supporting the OTHER deadbeat as governor of Massachusetts..the simple phrase ‘yes we can’ was lapped up like pudding by the idiot masses who wanted free gas in their cars and new kitchens...

He has the BIGGEST tin ear in politics.

Howie should like this news story on Monday...

He's right about 2008, hopefully these two years have educated the electorate some.

“uninformed voters”

Rush has talked about this - that dems think all they have to do is “explain” it better.

Thanks to the Social Media of the internet and more variety of News channels on cable American are more informed.

Liberals are bemoaning the fact they no longer control the context of information being feed to the masses...Hence they are attempting to suppress any opposition by creating controls aka "Net Neutrality" and the "Fairness Doctrine". Its about control.

Heaven knows that the masses shouldn't be allowed to know what the Government elitist is doing to them...

he is right, the voters have been an uninformed electorate for years - that is why we have Obama and the other lefties.

However, I suspect the 2010 voters will be the best informed voters ever.

“JFK means Just For Kerry. He’s Irish only every sixth year”—Billy Bulger

Have said many times MA is over run with Dems on the fed and local level. But just imagine...a Republican governor/lt gov.... treasurer...auditor...attorney general. Imagine
that some of the 10 Congressional seats could be occupied
by Bielat, Perry, or Hudak instead of Frank, Delahunt (retiring anyway) and Tierney...

We must be really stupid and uninformed, Senator, if we
even think of NOT voting Democrat

They didn’t manage to shut down conservative talk radio or right leaning Net sites, thankfully! We are informed.

"Barney is prepared, as others are, to explain what we’re doing. I think when people hear the facts and they see what we’re doing, it frankly makes sense."

Rep.Frank, in my opinion, has yet to explain or apologize for his resistance to reining-in the housing bubble in 2006 as desired by the Bush'43 Administration. The fact that his former lover, Mr.Raines, made millions from Fannie Mae had nothing to do with it, I'm sure /sarc

As for Sen.Kerry, have you paid the Mass. Taxes on your brand new multi-million dollar foreign-built yacht yet? Does the miasma stink of the hypocrisy that you exude ever choke you?

Dude. If this doesn’t qualify as ‘lamentations of their women”, nothing does. It really doesn’t get any better than this.

what Obama and the Democrats did when the media gave them the keys to the car: He seized the title to the car, put Big Labor in the driver’s seat, and rode shotgun as the Democrats committed mass vehicular homicide — running over workers, dealers, bondholders, and anyone else who stood in the way.

Oh yes. I’m on a lot of radio messageboards and when people point out that Air America was a flop they replied oh no,
it’s those fascist money grubbing conservative station owners who switched it off and we MUST have the fairness doctrine because after all the media is SO tilted to the right. (I still laugh when I read one newsgroup post that called CNN
“right-leaning”)

“We have an electorate that doesn’t always pay that much attention to what’s going on so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or the truth or what’s happening,”

John Kerry has a point.

And, he and the democrats have been using that same exact statement and belief to use "simple slogans" and "untruths" and "spin" to keep the electorate happy and unthinking and clueless.

A dumb electorate is what the democrats have always counted on.

People who don't have the time to investigate what's fact or what's a lie, and people who can't be bothered with getting informed, will be the ones that fall easily for the slogans and the simple statements and the spin and the lies. The democrats perfected their means to get into power.

Kerry is accusing the opposition of doing what the democrats do.

If the electorate actually did spend attention to the issues, and if that electorate did dig deep into the issues, then the democrats would've been toast from the beginning and we probably wouldn't have progressives or liberals or socialists getting elected to government.

Actually, the American public grows more informed and interested day by day...that’s what his real problem is. He’s nervous, and angry that we our getting our information from the internet, FOX and each other. We now automatically discount much of what the establishment says.

The Murkowski/Castle/Bennett/Crist thing isn’t scaring the bleep out of only establishment Republicans...the tea party is a rejection of the elitist class. Gigolo John is a member and past president of that smarmy group.

Oh yes, the stupid little peasants need to shut up and get back in the fields. Our intellectual superiors in D.C. have work to do and simply cannot be bothered with the filthy masses.

This is the prevailing attitude of those in power, and it is why people are ready to cut all of them loose.

It is just infuriating that taxpayers have to pay these morons for the rest of their lives.

As Rush said, “they’re not going to give back the car keys until they’ve finishing STRIPPING the car”.......

... they’re trying to push all these crappy bills thru (blocked so far, TG) before the American people can grab the keys back....only to find that the car has been stripped down to the axles.
