A Berks County man paralyzed in a bicycling accident several years ago was killed Thursday when he collided with an ambulance near his home while riding an adaptive cycle recently donated to him.

Stephen B. Johnson, 49, of Exeter Township, was riding the three-wheel cycle modified for people with leg paralysis west on Rugby Road in Exeter Township when he veered into the path of the ambulance, according to police.

The ambulance was returning to its station from a call and was not carrying any patients, police said.

The sad part is that adults need to get a grip and if they want to ride toys, ride where there are not automobiles present.

I don’t drive on bike paths. There is a reason for that.

I’ve already got three mountain bikes. A 19lb hardtail, a 120mm jack of all trades full suspension and 6” inch travel monster for lift served mtb parks. None of which btw will accept paniers, so no bueno for commuting.

Poor analogy. Here's why: You don't belong on bike paths. That's not my opinion, but fact. If I see you on a bike path, I'll call the cops and you'll be ticketed, your car impounded, etc etc. It's against the law. You don't belong.

On the other hand, if you see me on the road. You can feel free to call the police, but they'll tell you that under Texas law, I have every right to use the road. Bikes belong.

Bike paths are great, but I need to get work, and that means riding on the very roads that that the state of Texas says I have a legal right to ride on. End of discussion.

>>What you are suggesting is criminally negligent. Please reconsider.<<

Oh, I would not do it. I said “need to be”. ;)

And they do.

I have notice that in Portland.

It is not like that here on the coast.

If you had a lick of common sense, you would realize that roads are made for cars, not toys. If you wish to take your life in your hands, fine, but that’s your choice.

I think the thing that really ticks motorists off is the blatant attitude problem, the lack of regard for traffic laws and the simple irritating way that people that continue to use toys as rides have. End of discussion.

While your opinions are cute in a grumpy old man kind of way, the law disagrees with your opinion, which is worth exactly nothing btw.

Your opinions are snarky in a silly spandex kind of way, which by the way, mean squat.

I wouldn’t have the guts to do that in MA.

I’d get hosed.

Come a little too close for (their) comfort, sure.

Heck, remember the AirFrance Jet that crashed in the Atlantic.

A Frenchwoman cancelled her flight on that plane, but a few weeks later, while driving in Austria, had a car accident and died.

Y’know, putting a small image of bicyclists on your car like the planes of WWII putting images of enemy planes they had shot down on their fuselage may elicit a chuckle, but in MA, I’d prolly get nailed for a hate crime.

I had a killboard on my 89 Golf.
Drew some startled looks and a few nervous chuckles.
