Officer in Costco shooting says man raised gun, didn’t know it was in holster
Las Vegas Sun ^ | 23 Sept 2010 | Cara McCoy, Dave Toplikar

Posted on 09/24/2010 9:34:59 AM PDT by Mr Rogers

This comes from a Vegas paper, so I'll summarize:

Day 1 of the inquest into the police shooting of Eric Scott at a Las Vegas Costco emphasized the large amount of prescription painkillers found in his body. The assistant DA suggested Scott was suicidal.

Day 2 apparently spent a bunch of time explaining why there will be no video...basically, the machines weren't working, sorry.

Then the cop who was closest to Scott testified. In his testimony, he says the gun found by investigators was in its holster, and that he didn't realize the gun was in its holster when he shot Scott. That info comes about 2/3 of the way into the article:

The story does Not say that the video cameras failed, just the store's recording device..."faulty hard drive".

It was stated earlier that there is a Off-Site recording of all Costco Stores surveillance videos, as required by their insurance carrier. This was revealed by the Scott Family attorney in a previous thread.

Mine too! I’d guess that there were videos but Cosco decided to destroy them at the request of the cops?

Like I said in our last conversation, I regard cops as I do soldiers

Put them under the UCMJ?

I think it is significant that the shooting cop didn’t know the gun was still in its holster. I don’t think he is an evil man hoping to shoot people. I think he was prepped by what he was told, and anticipated someone who was both armed AND dangerous.

Maybe Scott was both. Maybe not. But he doesn’t sound much like a guy trying to commit suicide by forcing the cops to shoot him, and that was the assistant DA’s argument the first day.

I think it was an unjustified yet almost inevitable shooting, and I think the Costco employees may have unintentionally set up the chain of events. And yes, I have no doubt based on what I’ve read that Scott also contributed significantly to his own death.

I simply give them the benefit of the doubt in ‘heat of battle’ situations.

You purposely twisted what I wrote, trying the fallacy of undistributed middle. The corruption of every other LV officer doesn’t say one thing about the guilt or innocence of this police officer. The man who was killed has family who have subpoenaed the hard drive of the COSTCO machine and the expert they hired says there is nothing after the 8th until the machine was turned on again the day this happened during the event. Keep trying to twist what I write and you just dig your irrational hole deeper, madame.

Not you! You normally think. Tell me you read the article at the link.
Other than your Kline obsession, I have found your posts well reasoned.

There was no "battle"

Not possible since I never quoted anything that you said. I simply imparted info that I had been given by the locals.

The corruption of every other LV officer doesn’t say one thing about the guilt or innocence of this police officer.

This whole case stinks to high heaven. No one believes that there will be an honest hearing as NO LV cop has been faulted for misconduct since 1976.

And you might want to check post 123. That info has also been around for awhile.

See post 111. And ask a Las Vegas freeper about the corrupt police force. It ain’t pretty.

What does that have to do with Costco having an open service call on their video security system days before the incident?

What the charts show is the man's tolerance for the meds was very high, since he had a nanograms per deciliter level well above what would be toxic in a non-medicated body. He had probably been taking too much for too long and had grown irrational. Sadly, he died for a ridiculous reason and his blood levels would definitely explain his depression and irrational behavior.

As an example, a heroin dose that would kill a non-user is needed in a heavy addict to just 'get the monkey to sit down'.

Did you read any of the early articles and eyewitness accounts. Especially the one from the guy standing 8 ft away from Scott? There was no battle.

(1) Some poorly made holsters will come off with the gun when you draw; (2) you can still kill someone else or yourself with a gun that is holster-covered (they aren’t bullet-proof); and (3) I can imagine it would be difficult to recognize from a reasonable distance whether someone was pointing a hostered or unholstered gun at you.

Mmmmmmm, good!!! You REALLY love the taste of the jack-boot leather, don't you, Snake? Only nine posts till the licking started.

Statist creeps like you are enablers for the Police State.
