I just love the bumper stickers that say, “You can’t be patriotic and drive a foreign car” or “Eat your foreign car when you’re starving.”
I drive a Pilot, they are made in the foreign country of Alabama.
Mine is a 94 Honda Civic with 228,000 on it and going strong. It gets at least 35 MPG and sometimes I’ve averaged 45-50 highway. I’m hoping to reach 300,000.
I have a ‘97 F150 with 269,000 on it, and it’s had to work for a living. The heater core went out; other than that, it’s just routine maintenance. She’s gotta go at least another year before I can get a newer F150.
296k! Wow, you sure get your money’s worth! Amazing...only a heater core in all that time and miles. What other product do you buy that is that reliable?
..and the Grand Coolie Dam, too.
Tip o' the hat to VanDyke Parks and Brian Wilson.
I can honestly answer - nothing!!
My experience with Fords has been just the opposite. Long time ago had a 1990 or so F150 that was pretty good, except for the multiple recalls. But then I got a later F150 and a Winstar. Both lasted less than 5 years before we had to get rid of them. They weren’t “nickel and dime-ing” us, it was $500 here, $1000 there - a couple of times a year each in unscheduled maintenance. No more Fords. At least, until they have demonstrated a decade or so of good quality.
My guess is you bought some of the cars under the Jack Nassar regime. He did a number on quality. Their was a reason he was fired and they hired Mulally. Come back home they are good now...
I worked for a GM plant in LA back in the late 70s and this was common and everyday practice among a lot of autoworkers. Drink in the parking lot lot before the shift, pound a quart of beer at lunch and drink for an hour or two after the shift.
I wonder if Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, VW, Audi, Opel workers drink beer at lunch in Germany?
