U.S. Chamber Endorses Manchin for Senate in West Virginia An Invaluable Leader Who Understands that Lower Taxes & Smart Energy Policies Will Help Get Americans Back to Work
CHARLESTON, WVThe U.S. Chamber of Commerce joined the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce today to announce its endorsement of Joe Manchin for Senate, highlighting his record of supporting the states businesses and workers.
Were endorsing Joe because he understands the economic challenges our country is facing and has a record of supporting policies that allow businesses to create jobs, said Lisa Rickard, executive vice president of the U.S. Chamber and president of the Institute for Legal Reform, during todays event with Manchin at the West Virginia Chamber. He is an invaluable leader who has a common sense approach to job creation and getting America back on the road to recovery.
Under Manchins tenure, West Virginias economy has remained strong, with a lower unemployment rate than the national average, and one of the few states to receive a Moodys bond rating increase for the states growing economy and responsible fiscal management. In 2008, the Cato Institute stated that Manchin enacted the most pro-growth tax reforms of any governor. He was one of only three governors to earn an A on Catos review of fiscal policies in all 50 states.
From cutting taxes on businesses and workers, to supporting common sense energy policies, Joe has been an independent voice in West Virginia, Rickard said. As Governor, Manchin helped create a business friendly environment, leading to more than $13 billion in private investments in West Virginia. During the past five years, more than 240 companies have either expanded in or moved to the state.
The U.S. Chamber plans to play a major role nationwide in the 2010 elections, endorsing candidates who have demonstrated consistent support for Americas job creators and will work to advance a pro-growth agenda in Congress. In 2008, 213 of the 265 Chamber-endorsed candidates (81%) were elected.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the worlds largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
Can any West Virginians here explain this? The Chamber is violently opposed to Cap & Trade and with good reason. I don't know anything about Manchin, but is there any chance he'd oppose C&T.
I find this baffling, given how committed the USCoC is to stopping the Obama agenda.

All I can say is WTF?
They know that nothing happens in West Virginia without approval from the Democrat Party.

And another bunch of fools help to cut their own throats....
WOn’t that be bad for Meacham, since his base has been told repeatedly that business, and the Chamber of Commerce that supports business, are evil entities?
Of course he would oppose C & T - it would kill WV’s economy. Even Rockefeller opposes it. It would be sweet to pull in a Democrat to oppose our beloved Lindsey Graham wouldn’t it?
Also, isn’t WV one of the states that would sit the elected senator immediately after election rather than January? He could really wreck the lame duck party the Dims are planning.
Globalism must be pulled up by the roots from the Republican Party -- and its influences.
The GOP suffers from the money-control of the U.S. Chamber and of the Managed Funds Association.
Read more about the Managed Funds Association in a recent article by Cliff Kincaid, here: "Republicans Play into Obamas Hands on Wall Street."

Well when a Democrat pol gets this much praise on this site, I’ve gotta think he’s kind of ok. Thanks for the info.
I still fear that once he gets in DC and has to answer to the national leadership he’ll go lefty on us....it’s happened to most “moderates” in the past. They find some weasel way to support things like Cap and Trade while saying they don’t.
I’ll hope for the best.
Hank
Read about the CATO Institute, here, also in Kincaid articles.
From what I’ve read about Manchin, he’s been a pretty good governor and is a lot more conservative than a lot of pubs. But if and when he gets to DC, that will change. The DC rats will eat him alive if he bucks the system. He’s used to calling his own shots, but that won’t be an option in DC as a junior senator. The only possible good to come of it would be that he switches parties. He should have stayed put, but I guess that he’s facing a term limit, I don’t know. Maybe he’s got his eye on the WH.
CATO are libertarians. Meaning they are rright on many issues and dead wrong on others. Take them for what they are, but they ain’t conservatives.
West Virginia is a demo/union state. It should be no surprise the WV CoC supports a progressive socialist.
Now, we must wait to see what the voters of WV say. I have my money on they are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to socialism and marxism. Since in their hearts, I am convinced they are capitalists.
We will see.
You are only confused if you were under the false assumption that the CoC is a conservative, free-market supporting organization.
While some local branches are, it has a fairly checkered past at the macro level. In the 1940’s they supported much of the economic policy of the National Socialists in Germany.
I’m not sure I buy that CATO is corrupted because one person who funds them is queer. CATO is, after all, libertarian. If we hear of them supporting same-sex marriage, then we can say they’ve been corrupted. So long as they stay libertarian, though, you may disgree with them, but they aren’t “corrupt.”

Manchin's getting credit for a good WV economy but that is starting to show cracks as the anti-business Obama administration starts to sink its teeth into environmental policy that is designed to "save the environment" by killing jobs.
Oil and coal are the top two items on the agenda. Regulations concerning coal alone will crash the WV economy, with the Obama EPA riding it down.
