Is PRAVDA as tightly controlled as it was in the past? Would the Russian government (Putin) have any say in whether or not this opinion piece was written? Would Putin use what someone called a 3rd rate tabloid to plant this sort of article?

Pravda has gotten quite conservative, and it is no longer state controlled.

OTOH, I doubt whether anyone in Russia would venture to offend Putin about anything he really felt strongly about. So, at any rate, we may conjecture that Putin has no strong objections if Pravda undermines The One, which they have done from time to time. Evidently even the birth issue isn’t off limits, as it is here in the U.S.
