Still grappling with his shocking primary defeat, Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.) said Thursday that he will not endorse GOP Senate nominee Christine O'Donnell because he could not tolerate some of the "personal smears" he faced during the campaign.
Castle has spent the past 36 hours fielding phone calls and pats on the back from well-wishing colleagues and other politicians, including President Obama, Vice President Biden, House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) and dozens of others. He said that he was coming to grips with the reasons for his defeat - a conservative rebellion in the southern portion of the state that was given extra ammunition by Sarah Palin's endorsement of O'Donnell. But he said that there probably wasn't enough time in the next six weeks for him to get over some of the attacks lobbed in the contest.

The Biden senate seat hierachy just got a bit messier.
On Friday, four days before the primary, O'Donnell called Castle “unmanly” for filing an election law complaint against her, telling a radio show host that “this is not a bake-off, get your man-pants on.”

I actually think the theory that one of the callers on Rush postulates has merit.
The idea was to run a sacrificial lamb (Coons) against Castle, have Castle retire in 4 years and have Biden’s son run in an open seat, and set up the Biden dynasty in Delaware for the next 40 years.
Castle was the perfect stooge for this plan but now O’Donnell has blown it to smithereens. If she loses to Coons, then Biden will not have an open seat to run in Delaware (the other senator is also a Dem).
Biden would probably prefer O’Donnell wins so he can run against her in 2014.
I would not be surprised if Biden operatives try sabotage the Coons campaign, especially if the race tightened as I expect it to.
I’m new to this great race. Did she really call him un-manly? The more I hear about this gal the more I like her!
I guess we now know the reasons for the commication between Biden, Obama and Castle right after his defeat!

Good Lord i HATE it when these sore losers do that. if they had any class they would rally around the nominee even if they are just doing it for show.
maybe we will get lucky, he will run as an independent and siphon votes from Coons (think Crist in FL)

I believe there is a BIG difference between a candidate's supporters not suppporting their opponent and the candidate *themselves * refusing to endorse the legally elected candidate from their own (supposed) party. He has shown no class and this whole episode has been very instructive to the conservatives! I, for one, will NEVER forget Rove's disgusting performance....

Note to all members of all parties and all factions: Cease this bitchery at once. There’s maybe one in a hundred of you, if that, who can genuinely claim you got cheated or defamed. In which case, you shouldn’t be bitching about it to the press and the public, you should be filing lawsuits. If you lose the primary, make the call to congratulate your opponent, offer your support in private and public, and then follow through. That’s the entire reason we have primaries in the first place and they usually work. If you can’t do that, if you aren’t sure going in that you can do that for the other folks in the field, join another party where you can, run independent, or don’t get in at all. Don’t be a bitch.

I get so sick everytime Dem's put some long-term politician's name on a seat after they die or retire. Disgusting!
