I have heard about many Leftists having "moments of clarity" and turning Conservative. However, I have rarely heard of people going the other way. If you are already conservative, its almost intellectually inconceivable to start to think that Marxism can actually work.
In my experience, the ones who go from being "conservative" to leftist are usually ones who never put any thought into their political beliefs. They were "conservative" only because mommy and daddy were. Then, as soon as they get into a college where all of the professors are Marxists idiots, and all of the cute college girls are Marxist idiots, they start "questioning assumptions", which is the same as saying that they get brainwashed. It is not an intellectual transformation. It is simply a need to be one of the herd.
People who go from leftist to conservative, however, usually do it for intellectual reasons, having had some sort of epiphany, and usually later in life, once life has had a little bit of time to administer the proper a$$-kicking.

...once life has had a little bit of time to administer the proper a$$-kicking....such as seeing the bottom line on your 1040 over a span of 10 or 12 years.

The 60's New Left used the slogan: Dare to Struggle! Dare to Win! We on the Right knew that they were suggesting to college nerds like Coons: Dare to Snuggle! Dare to Sin!
Poor Coons only dreamed (in vain) about snuggling and did not win. Next chapter: November 2, 2010: A humiliated Coons is defeated by O'Donnell and stops appearing in daylight.
