When asked about that by media, she can explain that the college held her degree hostage until she paid off her debt to them; and she can say that it would have been different if she had been an illegal alien. Then she would have gotten federal funds to help pay her school bills.

She will definitely need to be well prepared to answer the charges, but also to turn the tables on the questioner/accuser as well.
