A commercial contracts lawyer at Queensland University of Technology is likely to be fired after posting a video of himself burning a Koran on the YouTube video sharing website last Friday.

Australian attorney Alex Stewart is on a leave of absence while his employer conducts an investigation into the privately-made 12-minute video, according to the Brisbane Times. The self-declared atheist appears to be smoking marijuana rolled in pages from the Koran, which he then rates according to which ones “burn better.”

Another ‘blow’ to free speech. Check your human rights at the door, a Muslim might be offended.

I'll assume that he has something in his contract that gives them the right to fire him for making a public spectacle of himself in a way that offends the employer's sense of dignity. When will people learn that the internet is a public place?

I think this is the same story that I read earlier BUT the lawyer was smoking BOTH the Bible and Koran. I find it odd how the article “forgot” to mention the Bible part.

Notice in countries where Muslims aren’t in control you get this:

“Of course we’re hurt... but I would urge my Muslim fellow men to respond with caution and with responsibility. They should be careful when they respond upon these issues,” Wahid was quoted as saying. “We are a community of tolerance (and) understanding. Of course people will be angry, but I urge they should not take the law into their own hands and they should show their response in a positive way to explain (to) the whole Australian public that we must live in a way that we respect each other’s faith and practices.”

And...

In countries where Muslims ARE in control you get this:

TEHRAN: Two top Iranian clerics said anyone desecrating the Quran must be killed, Fars news agency reported, as hundreds of people protested today outside the Swiss embassy in Tehran.

“From the point of view of Islamic jurisprudence, strong objection to such thoughts is mandatory and necessary and killing the people who have committed this act is compulsory,” Ayatollah Hossein Nouri Hamedani was quoted as saying by Fars.

....hoping to head off a violent response by outraged Muslims.

Yeah, good luck with that. Mohammedans are ticking time-bombs looking for any excuse to be violent. And the more people attempt to appease them, the worse the situation gets. We won't win Phase 1 of the WOT until non-muslims fully understand that.

Australian lawyer smokes pages of Bible and Koran, asking ‘Which is best?’
An Australian lawyer, Alex Stewart, has smoked pages torn from the Koran and the Bible, posting the video on YouTube just days after an American Pastor’s threat to burn the Muslim holy book caused worldwide outrage.

I don’t approve of burning the Bible and I don’t approve of atheists, but it is his right. I don’t want to chop his head off. Maybe he’s in trouble for smoking pot.

Interesting twist. Atheists usually target Christianity for ridicule. This is the first time I've seen any of them have the cojones to take on Mad Mohammad's death cult...

Being controversial can only be safely done by somebody who does not work for a company which can be pressured. Retirees are least vulnerable to economic retaliation, followed by independent business owners like plumbers, auto repairmen, etc.

So, if an ATHEIST burns a Koran, is that considered bad?

I can understand if a Christian burns it, but an atheist?

I thought the laws the atheists made were supposed to protect the atheists.

A ski mask can be your friend. Wear a cross around your neck for full effect, though. But this guy’s an atheist, so too bad. Didn’t this guy also burn a bible on that same video? That’s the reason for his “burns better” comparison.

Perhaps it doesn’t mention the Bible because it’s an Israeli source.

Still, it’s odd how no one seems to fear smoking pot in pages from a Bible. Atheists are quite brave when it comes to those horribly intolerant Christians.

If it is a sin, Christ would forgive him if he repented and asked, Mohammad would take him for a sex slave and kill him, I would say the Koran would be the downer..

“Another ‘blow’ to free speech. Check your human rights at the door, a Muslim might be offended.”

He did the same with a bible. Regarding free speech: In USA you have the right to say that ‘Jews deserved what Hitler did to them’ and even say it on national TV, if you find a broadcaster. Now, your employer has a legitimate right to feel less than amused when it all becomes public. Just because you can say, or do it, doesn’t mean that you should.

He preferred the bible. The koran made him slightly ill :/

I think he was smoking tobacco or some sort of herb (not pot).
