After watching the trailer (yeah, I know, but I was curious), I don't think 'The Omen' has anything to do with it.
Here's my guess at what this is all about...
The people being tortured aren't political detainees. Given the info about the rupture in the space-time continuum, my guess is that they're either time-travelers or aliens. The interruption of the assassination attempt was to prevent the disruption of the start of a 'paradigm shift' of the evolution of mankind, which this President seems to be the catalyst for.
It may be a sci-fi tie-in to the whole leftist "Obama is Messiah" idea with the not-so-subtle message that 'to get rid of him is a HUGE mistake, because he'll save us all".
If this show is an alien thing, I'd much rather see a show about aliens who come to Earth who eat garbage, poop solid gold, and piss super-unleaded premium gasoline.
They have to produce something new, something that no one has produced before.
Presenting a left wing president as good is nothing new.
Presenting a left wing president as appearing to be good when in fact he is evil hasn't been done.
Being able to portray anyone that objects to BO’s and the lefts agenda as a bunch of loons that believes a television show is real, is also to their advantage.
