Citing "Mental Anguish," Christine O'Donnell Sought $6.9 Million in Gender Discrimination Lawsuit
Weekly Standard ^ | 9/12/10 | John McCormack

Posted on 09/12/2010 10:11:56 AM PDT by truthandlife

Court documents obtained Saturday by THE WEEKLY STANDARD reveal surprising new details about the gender discrimination and wrongful termination lawsuit filed by Christine O'Donnell in 2005 against her former employer, the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, a conservative non-profit based in Delaware.* O'Donnell, who is now challenging moderate congressman Mike Castle in the September 14 Delaware GOP Senate primary, sought $6.95 million in damages. In a court complaint, she extensively detailed the "mental anguish" she suffered after allegedly being demoted and fired because of her gender. And, although she didn't have a bachelor's degree until this year, O'Donnell implied she was taking Master's degree classes at Princeton University in 2003.

O'Donnell alleged in a July 1, 2005 complaint filed in district court that she had been demoted because ISI's conservative philosophy dictated that women must be subordinate to men. She claimed she was fired when she contacted the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission regarding her demotion. ISI told the Delaware News Journal that she had been "terminated for operating a for-profit business."

O'Donnell's finances, honesty, and stability have been called into question in light of her false and strange claims. The court complaint raises further questions on all fronts. O'Donnell, who made an annual salary of $65,000 at ISI as director of communications and public affairs, sought up to $6,952,477 million in damages, claiming, among other allegations, that ISI had defamed her and had violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. O'Donnell sought:

--Up to $3,952,447 in "Direct Damages, including back pay" and "lifetime lost income and liftetime damage to reputation."

I believe in your freedom of speech to be as dishonorable as you want.

Do you believe that Castle would be a great Senator?

If not, I politely suggest that you find someone who you think would be a great Senator?

Attacking a good Conservative if you don’t even think the opponent would be a great Senator, is a low thing to do.

I want to hear what candidates that are running in Hawaii, Maryland, NY, NY, or NH you think could be great Senators.

I think Christine will be a great Senator.
Do you think Castle will be a great Senator?

What we are watching here a proxy war between Mitch McConnell and Jim Demint for control over the GOP senate leadership. McConnell is a DC elite insider and the best friend K street has in the senate along with John Coryn and company. Demint has a won with his candidates like Rand Paul , Angle , Miller, Buck, and McConnel has been wiped out. Castle is a K street favorite and a good McConnell boy. Apparently, Mcconnell has decided to go nuclear after the Miller win in AK .

How do you know she didn’t have standing in the lawsuit...??

How do you know she didn’t get frustrated and decide to sue??

How do you know that she didn’t get tired of the freaking ridiculous amount of time and money...a lawsuit takes and back out...

My hubby and I sued our mortgage company that was trying to screw us over...it was horrible and I’ve never sued ANYONE... we had a great case....but we couldn’t afford the lawyers fees after a couple of months and although we were right, we had to drop the case....doesn’t mean it was frivilous....

Castle voting records is awful. His conservative voting records is like 50 % and lower than many conservative Dems . He voted for cap & trade and the stimulus and numerous dem legislation. The NRA gave him a F and he is pro abortion too. But Mitch McConnell considers him a vote for him to keep the GOP leadership chair with all the K street goodies it comes with.

How do you know she didn't contact EOC after being told she was terminated? You don't know because you're only looking at the complaint and not the response to the complaint.

Do you have a link to any response? I haven't seen one.

It's not as if this stuff about O'Donnell hasn't appeared before. She had been the GOP candidate for Senate against Biden in '08, so her rivals have had plenty of time to come up with all the opposition research they could possibly find.

What's precipitating this rehash at this time is that the Weekly Standard is backing Castle and the primary is only two days away.

she had been demoted because ISI's conservative philosophy dictated that women must be subordinate to men. She claimed she was fired when she contacted the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission regarding her demotion.

I doubt that is the real reason. But isn't it telling that in our "free" society, philosophically conservative institutions are under a de facto ban?

Come on! Even “real conservatives” have a right to sue if they think they have been discriminated against. Female conservatives are not treated any better than Black conservatives.

I wonder what else would she have wanted 6.9 million for?

Plaintiffs in civil cases frequently ask for an amount of damages way more than the realistic amount. It really doesn't mean anything in terms of the plaintiff's sanity or insanity. It's just that the plaintiff or his or her lawyer know that the more they ask for, the more they are likely to get if the judge and/or jury decide in their favor.

You seem to be arguing that O'Donnell's failure to disclose herself properly prior to 2010 is somehow the fault of the Delaware state GOP. Let me assure you that is not true in business, or law, or politics.

No, I'm saying that it is not her job to self-vet herself. If I'm running for office, why would I feel the need to make my personal stuff public? Hey, it is what it is. It's the job of her opponents to do opposition research, not the candidate itself.

I am just telling it like it is. I cannot stand Castle and his shameful "F" rating from the NRA. The tea party conservatives need to vet and choose their candidates more carefully. I am glad you think my comment is cute though.

Talking with God about my own sins is an ongoing conversation—I certainly don’t need what sounds like advice straight from a follower of Saul Alinsky.

Now, imagine if the same effort you people put into smearing O’Donnell were applied to Castle. One would think that if you thought Castle were bad news, you would be posting bad news about him.

Not that you support Castle, right?

This is not necessarily directed against you—I don’t know your posting history. Although it is available, naturally.

What do you think we can conclude about posters who say they are against Mike Castle, but so far have only put their efforts into joining the smear campaign against O’Donnell? (The answer is obvious, isn’t it?)

Well, OK. But that doesn’t discuss the substance of the suit. Frankly, I look at such lawsuits with a very jaundiced eye.

“If it were me I’d vote for a flawed conservative women over a flawed cowardly rich liberal man.”

Unfortunately, that is exactly my opinion after reviewing everything.
