I'll put the entire press release from the Southern Florida office of the DOJ below the fold, but the entire thing reads as if something much more was going on here then a simple gun running scheme. We're not talking just a few weapons either. In addition to wanting to buy hundreds of fully automatic weapons, he was also inquiring into purchasing C-4 and .... IEDs.
And here's a couple of key bits from the affidavit against Abdalaziz Aziz Hamayel, the Palestinian national (is that a nationality?) who was busted: HAMAYEL indicated that a "family friend"... from the same village in the West Bank would provide the necessary funds for the weapons and explosives...
HAMAYEL responded that the weapons were for his people and would be sent outside the United States...
HAMAYEL also mentioned that his New York contact was from "his group" and had conducted similar transactions in the past....
HAMAYEL stated the detonation device did not need to be a phone only something which would allow his people enough time to get out of the area before the bomb exploded.
HAMAYEL was pleased with the weapons and told UC-1 he did not want the cell phone detonator because it would not work "over there". [emphasis mine]
The other guy in the case is a Cuban named Yanny Aguila Urbay, but who went by the nickname of "Negro". His role in the affair seems only to be hooking Hamayel up with the weapons dealer. Urbay wanted a "finders fee" cut from the transaction.
I'm not sure why this isn't be reported as such, but all signs point to terrorism. But with the current peace talks going on we wouldn't want to make Palestinians look bad, now would we?
Thanks to psst for the tip.
Hamayel Complaint (PDF) Urbay Complaint (PDF)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wifredo A. Ferrer, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and John V. Gillies, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Miami Field Office, announced today that defendants Abdalaziz Aziz Hamayel, 23, of West Bank Palestinian Authority, and Yanny Aguila Urbay, 24, of Hialeah, were charged by separate Complaints. Specifically, the Complaints charge Abdalaziz Aziz Hamayel and Yanny Aguila Urbay with one count of conspiracy to possess stolen firearms, that is, M-16s, AK-47s, and silencers, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 371.
According to the Complaints, beginning in April 2009, the defendants negotiated to purchase 300 stolen, fully automatic weapons. In addition to the firearms, Hamayel wanted to purchase grenades and improvised explosive devices. During the meeting with Hamayel in June 2009, Hamayel was shown the firearms, grenades and improvised explosive devices.
If convicted, the defendants face a statutory maximum of five (5) years and a $250,000 fine.
Mr. Ferrer commended the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and its Task Force partners. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Sherwin and Karen Gilbert.
A Complaint is only an accusation and each defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Some of Muslim George Bush’s Great Religion,I would assume.
we are at war with Islam. Plain and simple. And I’m mighty afraid that the president, obamanation, is on the enemy side.
“And Im mighty afraid that the president, obamanation, is on the enemy side.”
Ya think? The whole govt, military and intel has been compromised plus the exec, legislative and judiciary branches.
About the only branch of govt might be still true blue The Marines because they are pretty autonomous.
Amen, I’m so glad to say that I have a Marine JAG in immediate family!!! And he is 100% American!!
Sadly, I have to agree with that! Rulings by the nation's judges as of late have been abysmal at best (anti-Constitution and Rule of Law). They too, must be replaced.
Supporters of Israel balk at Obama idea to allow aid to Hamas
Snip from April 26, 2009 article:
The Obama administration, already on treacherous domestic political ground with its outreach to Iran, Cuba and others, has opened the door, if only slightly, to engagement with the militant group Hamas.
The Palestinian group is designated by the U.S. government as a terrorist organization and under law may not receive federal aid. But the administration has asked Congress for minor changes in U.S. law that would permit aid to continue flowing to Palestinians in the unlikely event that Hamas-backed officials become part of a unified Palestinian government.

Many judges have shown they need to be out of the system. Not because it has to be just a purge of the judicial offices but because it has to be reestablished that ‘ We the People’ are formost in our government as plainly given as the introduction to our Constitution.
Hmmmm.....Portland, OR, eh.....that liberal bastion better take note....but, they’re too busy hugging trees....
lI noticed that too, but it’s fairly typical to use “other”or “dummy” phone numbers when those who want no attention whatsoever think they’ll be called upon for any reason. It makes them more difficult to track.
If convicted, the defendants face a statutory maximum of five (5) years and a $250,000 fine.
Is this per weapon? It should be!
When a common citizen gets a year and a day just for possession and failure to pay tax.
There is much more to this story.
Oregon Taliban set for release
Snip from February 27, 2009 article
An Oregon man with ties to Douglas County who unsuccessfully tried to cross into Afghanistan to join the Taliban a month after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks is preparing to leave federal custody after serving most of a seven-year sentence.
Maher Mike Hawash, 44, has been moved from the federal prison in Sheridan and is living in a halfway house in an undisclosed location in Oregon, pending his scheduled April 14 release, said a spokesman for a regional federal community corrections office in Seattle.
Hawash, a former Intel software engineer, was sent to prison after pleading guilty in 2003 to conspiracy to supplying services to the Taliban.
In a plea agreement filed with the court, Hawash admitted that he and five others agreed to go to Afghanistan to assist the Taliban in fighting against the United States. The group was unable to enter Afghanistan through China and Pakistan and later returned to the United States.
Considering the number of stolen weapons and IEDs involved, you are absolutely correct with that statement. The conviction sentence is a pittance in light of the charges.
The FBI should have a unit set up to sell these guys their arms. Take their money and sell them whatever they want. Put on IED in the shipment set to go off an hour after they leave port.
We can only hope and pray the feds have no "Obama-edict" law enforcement hands tied behind their backs type rules of engagement" about apprehending terrorists.
That sounds like a good show. I’ll have to look for it.
The show is rated highly. We started watching via Netflix from the first year to current. Parts of it are educational as far as what can be done to "get things accomplished...."
I’m a believer in education. ;^)
fuqra has been operating out of Portland since the early days of the beltway sniper. They were running dope, truck rental, and limosine services out of there.
