Okay that’s odd because they had a guy on one of the local stations in San Fran saying it was definitely pipeline 132 and was a 24 inch pipe.

After what Obama did to BP, can ya blame a utility for not coming forward?

Gimme 20 Billion up front, and 2 Billion for advertising!

If there isn’t an investigation, there will never be an answer.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was standard operating procedure to send those people when something like this happens.

Updated reports

8:55: PG&E spokesman speaking with KZTVU says they have crews on the scene, aim to make the area safe, and will not confirm whether or not the gas line is their own. Very guarded. All other sources, including firefighters, say that it's a natural gas fire.

9:05: Anyone in need of assistance or shelter can contact the Red Cross at 1-888-443-5722 (888-4help-bay). Also: @kgoradio points out, "Highlands Christian School in San Bruno: No classes tomorrow, will be open for community prayer."

9:10: For what it's worth, SF Giant Pablo Sandoval's mom was evacuated from the area. She is safe.

9:12: The general consensus of each reporter and anchor on each major station is that they've never seen anything like this before, ever. SF General has five patients in critical condition, related to the San Bruno Fire. Other hospitals throughout the area house patients as well. At this hour, we're not sure what the number injuries are, exactly. "It is difficult at this point to know how many people are truly affected," Red Cross spokeswoman Melanie Finke said.

9:30: A few neighbors tell CBS 5 that they smelled gas in the area over the past week. PG&E came out because residents were complaining about the smell. But, according to the neighbors, they did nothing.

I agree, probably a policy former President Bush put in place....

Now can we depend on the media to report the truth? After Ft. Hood, I say no.

Per CNN A rep from PG&E says it is way to early to say what happened, but sounds like Gas Line of some sort.

From caww to me: Onyx :( death tolls are creeping up now..they are finding people on the street.......reported earlier 911 calls as people trapped in homes.

Oh dear God. I was afraid of that.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Report on KRON that a 1948 30-inch pipe ruptured and shot gas back into a number of the homes creating a huge fireball.

30 inch now! Not 24 inches!

Oh, Lord, that’s HUGE.

Thank you. I’m hoping they were elsewhere, and not home tonight. We’ve been watching the fire from our backyard deck, about a mile away, not realizing the epicenter was at our friend’s block. They are well-loved by hundreds of friends, and this will break many hearts if they were injured.

A local resident interviewed on KTVU said that there was a persistent gas smell in the area for the past several days. and that PG&E had been in the immediate area recently responding to a gas leak. And that they came and left with the gas smell still there.

sounds like this could be a huge disaster for PG&E.

Just has another report of the smell of gas for 3 weeks in that area.
PG&E on the spot..
Report on KRON that a 1948 30-inch pipe ruptured and shot gas back into a number of the homes creating a huge fireball

If the smell of gas part for 3 weeks in the vicinity of a 30" line is true, look out PG&E.

*45?!?!*

What is the likelihood that this was 'accidental' to affect that many homes? FF's calling for portapotties-they're gonna be there awhile. :*(

The rep I heard on CNN said it was too early to tell.

I didn’t hear him say at all ,’but sounds like a Gas line of some sort’.
