The same reason Fred Phelps is a nut job. Having a Church is a great responsibility. You are ambassadors to your community bringing it the Good News of Christ and living as an example. If the message you are relaying is one of hate and intolerance, you are no different than the ministers in the 1950’s who had a KKK robe in the closet at home.

Nothing at all constructive to be gained by this.
Efforts need to be spent on rooting out terror cells,
fighting efforts to implement Sharia, and stopping the mosque at Ground Zero. I’d even be for bombarding that mosque site with pork pieces, which at least would have the practical effect of making them go elsewhere. But burning Korans just makes all who oppose these things look like nutjobs. Besides, more people need to read that book to know what we’re up against.
There are lots of reasons why I could never embrace the Muslim faith. Not the least of which is I don't want to worship a god so weak and pitiful that he can't handle a little bit of criticism, criticism that comes from those who don't even believe in him. I find it impossible to worship a deity that's so insecure that he or she has to instruct followers to force the religion on non-believers, at the risk of death by decapitation.
Nope, I want a god of love, who knows NOTHING mere mortals do can threaten him or his plans for those who love and worship him.
Give me a real god, thank you.
