Hate to say it, but anyone that turns to the government for help wants the government to be big enough and powerful enough to affect them.

And if the government is big enough and powerful enough to do that, then it can do other things - less ‘nice’ to you.

In essence, those that want government help are the major culprits in regard to the increasing amount of statism we currently see.
