President Barack Obama called former President George W. Bush Tuesday hours before he was set to deliver an Oval Office speech on the drawdown of U.S. troops from Iraq, the White House said.
Obama made the call aboard Air Force One on his way to Ft. Bliss, Tex., where he will visit U.S. troops.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton said the private call lasted a few minutes, but declined to give further detail.
Obama telephoned Bush in February 2009 before announcing his plans for withdrawing troops from Iraq.

Gee, what a clever repartee!
What do you do in your spare time, read “Wit and Wisdom of George Bush II and Jimmy Carter”?
And this should be my last mission here. I'm ready to be home in Texas in a few months and readjust to the good life. :-D
How can you POSSIBLY love Ronald Reagan, as I do, and support that liberal clan of Yankee hucksters from New England - the Bushes???
Bush I betrayed the Reagan Revolution.
Bush II set the stage for a Marxist Muslim in the White House.
I’m surprized Obummer’s head doesn’t explode from talking out of both sides of his mouth.
FYI..while speaking to the troops today, Obama said..” for as long as I am President..” Interesting turn of phrase..
Thanks for your report! It is most exciting to learn how all you guys are getting along.
Praying along with you, hon. Enjoy the celebrations.

Gosh, I wonder if Saddam Obama knows that the troops swear an oath to defend the Constitution, not the Commander-in-Chief? And that they're still the strongest military in the world?
He does not know what the Constitution is.
Stay safe and be extra vigilant, things are pretty fluid right now.
This young and inexperienced tyro needs all the help he can get with one of the most stressful jobs in the world, and he isn't getting it from his staff. And the last Dem President has a vested interest in tearing him down. My advice would be to keep that number on speed-dial.
If Obama doesn’t give our brave men and women credit, he will be kicking them in the teeth.
He needs to use some form of the word victory, some form of the word win, and some form of the word success multiple times in this speech. And he needs to mean it . . . or fake it convincingly.
If he gives our forces the credit, I’m sure GWB won’t care very much if Obama gives him any credit.
What the hell is wrong with people like you, Zulu? Are you a Dem troll? Or just someone who couldn't recognize quality if you tripped over it? It's people like you who have driven me from the so-called true conservative cause, even though I am and have always been on the political Right. I'll never trust you self-proclaimed "true" conservatives again. From my point of view, you're a bunch of whiny, bratty, childish, self-defeating fools.
So you disagreed with President Bush on this or that matter of policy. Fine. Disagree. But be adult enough to stop the, yes, mindless invective against the most genuinely conservative president of our lifetimes, perhaps ever. George W. Bush was a truly great president. In my opinion, greater even than Ronald Reagan. No president since FDR was dealt the kind of hand GWB was dealt. Indeed, he had to face the first attack by a foreign enemy on the 13 original colonies since the War of 1812. He had to face that simultaneously with the anthrax attacks.
9/11/01 and the anthrax attacks occurred a mere seven months after he was inaugurated, and after that protracted struggle with Gore and the Left over who won the 2000 election. GWB's nominees weren't even in place yet below cabinet secretary level. Yet GWB stood tall throughout all of it. He almost singlehandedly dragged us and our economy back from the attacks on our government, financial system, postal system and news media. Things only started to go sour economically when the Dems took over Congress.
Katrina hit only 8 months after his second inaugural. The Left had been unrelenting in its viciousness, and the Right joined in almost immediately after GWB was reelected. Right-wing authors and talk show hosts practically fell all over themselves trying to prove that they weren't just shills for the Republican Party, so they led gullible people like you right over a cliff. The result is where we are today, with Obama doing everything he can to deliberately lose in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Whatever Obama called GWB about, the article says they only talked for "minutes," meaning it was a brief, one-sided conversation. Obama called The Man, not the other way around. What people like you are too stupid to get is that Obama is looking for legitimacy from the only man who could give it to him. Problem for Obama is that GWB really does want out of politics these days. He left office exhausted and burned out. He's more than happy to let Obama sink or swim on his own. Ironic, isn't it, that Obama should even call GWB given all the ugliness the Left spewed at him.
If that’s your attempt at humor, better stick to your day job. You are no comedian, and you most certainly are not politically astute.
And these mental midgets also likely insanely voted in 2008 for the disaster now residing in our house at 1600 Pennsylvania, thereby compounding their Bush Derangement Syndrome with repressed GUILT .. a true Catch 22, now additionally resulting in severe self-loathing on top of the primary disease, and resulting in frenetic irrational rationalization.

True, but the troops do.
Stay safe and be extra vigilant, things are pretty fluid right now.
They sure are. After six and a half years here, vigilance is my modus operandi. ;-)
Thanks for the good thoughts.
FYI..while speaking to the troops today, Obama said.. for as long as I am President..

I heard that, too. VERY curious turn of phrase.
