Back in 1987 or so, during the first Intifada, I was in Israel videotaping for a Messianic Jewish TV show. Our guide took us to a very old Christian church on the top of a hill Southeast of Bethlehem.

As he pointed out Bethlehem, we asked if we could go down there. He told us we didn’t really want to do that because the Palestinians controlled the town. And that was that.

BTW, Bethlehem literally means House of Bread. Recall that Jesus told us that he is the Bread of Life. Hallelujah.

Thank you for telling me your interesting story! I haven’t been to Israel but I want to go. It’s at the top of my list right after Vatican City. (Same trip, I hope).

I did not know that Bethlehem literally means House of Bread. Thank you!
