If you get to town today, you might also want to walk the “Loop” as it's known locally. Start at the WWII memorial on 17th street. This had some controversy when it was started. Some folks thought it was too plain, some had other issues. Now, mostly everyone who visits likes it as it is. You might see some WWII vets there, there are various organizations that bring them to town.
Then, when you are done there, walk the path (as you are facing the WWII Memorial, go right) towards the Lincoln Memorial, and that will take you to the Vietnam Memorial Wall. Be sure to look at the statues. They are well done.
When you are done there, bear left and follow the signs to the Korean War Memorial. A very interesting place.
At this point, you will be headed back towards the WWII Memorial (17th St.), but about halfway there, back in the trees a bit, you will find what to most is an obscure monument. It is the District of Columbia WWI memorial. It's worth a stop.
Keep walking and you will get a nice view of the Washington Monument.
Prayers up for those brave soldiers. May they RIP.
Will do.
