. . . She was urged by senior leadership at the National Republican Senatorial Committee to go negative on Miller in a meeting two months ago but rejected that advice, insisting that attack ads were not how politics were conducted in Alaska, according to a source familiar with the gathering.
By refusing to define Miller early on in the race, Murkowski gave away her biggest advantage: money. (On Aug. 4, Murkowski reported $1.86 million in her campaign warchest; Miller had just $84,000 in the bank at that time.)
As the votes were being counted, Miller gave full credit for his lead to Palin, the half-term governor of Alaska whose endorsement put him on the national political map. "I'm absolutely certain that was pivotal," he told the Anchorage Daily News. And, Murkowski, put the blame for her potential loss at the feet of the former governor, saying: "I think she's out for her own self-interest. I don't think she's out for Alaska's interest." . . .

Larry Sabbato was on Fox earlier and said he is winning by over 3000 votes in the areas Palin carried in her governor race and he feels you have to give her endorsement credit, even though Miller is an ideal candidate with great credentials (quite a change from Beggich who only has a high school education).
I think he quit because he was about to be zotted.
And in addition to nepotism, look at what Murkowski described as her virtues: Ms. Murkowski insists she has since accumulated political clout that Alaskans would be foolish to throw away. She has carved a middle-of-the-road path and has continued the tradition of lobbying for pork-barrel projects for her home state
Lisa, you are clueless and tone deaf to 'We the People' in 2010. Good riddance.
I wonder if she will finally endorse Marco Rubio now that her pennance has been paid to Juan.
True, but I’ve read no reasoned argument that those absentee votes would be significantly different in vote spread. In fact, I expect them to increase Miller’s winning percentage.
LOL.
who is the “senior leadership”
Steele?
seems theydid not have a good day yesterday.
McCain could only win by blowing 20 million.
I saw that too. More proof that we can she a TV. LOL.
Here in Florida the Republican establishment headed by Jeb Bush had planned a ‘unity meeting’ after they beat Rick Scott. When they found out that outsider Scott beat them thay cancelled the meeting and slunk away last night just before they would have to concede the race. What a bunch of Chicken S$*& pukes they are.
He's currently in self-imposed exile.
Too funny to se the slimey MSM reporters sympathize with the losing RINOS.
I was going to say "you mean by spending twenty million"; but, then I thought about it for a moment, and... ;)
I'll wager that he's not the only one crying.
Had she gone negative, Miller would have won in a landslide.
Well I have heard from almost every one I know who has any history in Alaska that politics there are completely different than in the lower 48. Murkowski may have been right to not go negative up there, I don’t know... But almost to a T folks from both sides of the Political isle have told me Politics up there are different.

Republicans are fired up and ready to go, and that’s producing some surprising election results, including the possible defeat of Sen. Lisa Murkowski in Alaska, who would be the third sitting U.S. Senator ousted by their own party this year.
The sound you hear is the soft weeping of writers in newsrooms across the land looking for a way to describe Tuesday’s primary election results. The establishment strikes back? John McCain did win really big in Arizona over Tea Party steamer J.D. Hayworth and Kendrick Meek crushed Jeff Greene for the Democratic Senate nomination in Florida. But wait, Murkowski may be headed to a loss in Alaska at the hands of a Tea Party Palinisto, Joe Miller. And well-funded outsider Rick Scott soundly defeated Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum for the GOP gubernatorial nod. What’s a hack to do?
...
I guess it depends on what you mean by "going negative." I seriously doubt that she refrained from making any attacks on her opponent. Or that she had nothing to do with all those anti-Palin stories in the press up there. Maybe she refrained from going as negative as these pros wanted, but I wouldn't take her word for it, or the press's word for it, that she never went negative. This story itself contradicts that meme, although the writer doesn't seem to notice it.
Here’s hoping we can retire Snowe and Collins in 2012 and 2014.
If they haven't gotten that by now, they wont ever. I'm afraid the GOP old guard thinks along the same lines as zero's crew when it comes to the peons. They'll scramble around for prettier wrapping while not changing the same old crap inside the box.
