” Beck replied, “No, I don’t,” adding sarcastically, “Will the gays come and get us?”

Either Beck doesn’t really believe what he says about the importance of culture in the matter of our nation’s present state or he’s got some reason for acting stupid.

Somewhere, around the edges, I pick up something on this guy that I just don’t like. It bothers me a bit because he seems to be on my side.

I suspect that Glen is simply not finished with his “reeducation” process. He admits to having had a turning point about two years ago, resulting in the realization that much of what he had been taught simply wasn't true. Let's hope that as his process of self education proceeds he will gain a knowledge of truths that elude him today. Undoing decades of bad teaching takes time.

"Somewhere, around the edges, I pick up something on this guy that I just don’t like. It bothers me a bit because he seems to be on my side."

That's exactly where the problem lies: Americans, even conservative ones, no longer stand on principle but takes sides. We like or dislike people rather than hear what the say and see what they do.

It does not even occur to you that you and Beck may simply disagree on a few issues and agree on most others, does it? Hence the confusion: he is on my side but I dislike him --- my goodness, what's happening? Drop sides, liking and disliking --- and confusion disappears at once.

.....he seems to be on my side.

A dry drunk disc jockey, with no education, but good intentions, he is on your side, just not all the time and quite unpredictably.

Sad state of affairs when disc jockeys just catching up on their High School Reading List are the leading popular philosophers of the Republican Party. Annie? OK, she's conservative. But she is also desperately and terminally seeking approval of the folks she considers hip. She's also a victim of the female desire to be "nice."

There is absolutely nothing "nice," about homosexuality. OTOH, homos can be "nice" people, or at least act like it in public, that is they can stay "in the closet," and act straight while they perform their jobs.

Yep, me too.

There are things about him that I love.
And things that make me nervous in my spirit. Until I know one way or the other about him, I regard him with caution.
