If only they put that same effort towards looking for a job, or trying to make themselves more employable.
Articles like this are so overhyped.
The title says “RIOTS ERUPT” and then the first words of the article are “A near riot” and then later it says “a riot nearly took place.”
I clicked on the video of a HUGE crowd with hands reaching out to get applications for section 8 housing but I did not see the riot or near riot. Some pushing and grabbing but that’s about it.
The only injuries were heat related and I have seen no mention of any arrests.
I’ve seen worse at those discount wedding gown sales.
Black Fridays too.
Must be from those Required "Diversity" and "Sensitivity" classes.....
What the hell did Ben Franklin say...........”only if you keep it...??????
Local news reported problems with people getting sick from the heat. It has been in the mid 90s all week. Also, some “scuffles” broke out when people tried to cut in line. I wasn’t in East Point yesterday but I don’t think there were actual riots (watched local tv news and listened to conservative radio stations’ news accounts). Police were present in riot gear to manage the crowd.

“Will what is happening to them change how they vote? We can only hope.”
Keep hoping.
I refuse to indulge in such fantasies.
Come 2012, just who do you think they’re going to vote for?
As many as sixty-two people were injured, with 20 taken to the hospital, including one baby that had a seizure. There were reports of two small children being trampled in the pandemonium, according to the Journal-Constitution.

Wow! I never knew that happened.
That AOL story changed the wording of the CNN article (linked at site)which stated:
“As many as 62 people required medical attention Wednesday, including 20 who were hospitalized as a result of the crowds, the hot weather and the failure of some to take their usual medications, the fire department said.”
That’s a lot different from AOL’s “sixty-two people were injured” which implies they were all trampled, attacked, or somehow harmed by the mob as opposed to simply forgetting their meds or being out in the heat.
Wait till the food riots start...
That’s what I’ve been say’n. Imagine what would happen if the stores were empty? People would really go bonkers!
These folks don’t look poor to me, and I heard that some of the cars they were driving were brand new and not cheap. There is an entire group of parasites who feel entitled to get everything they want free.
Thanks to our weasel politicians, the government now gives out cell phones, home phone service, broadband internet connection, housing, medical care, education (even if it is a bad education), food, utility payments, toys for their kids at Christmas, Thanksgiving dinner, school supplies,... am I missing anything?
It is incredible that we have so many people who have become like expensive pets. They have no desire to be responsible adults and make something of themselves. Subsidies actually harm those who receive them. They just don’t get it.
I almost fell off my chair laughing! Thanks.
It is a fairly famous event. That link might be pretty left biased much of the “history” of the great depression is. But the basic facts, the veterans seeking the early bonus, the Hooverville in DC, that some people died and the Army cleared out and burned the camp are true. I suspect it hurt Hoover in the election of 1932.
I have an impression that the Hoovervilles in general were pretty dangerous places. Now maybe my impression comes too much from the scene in the movie Cinderella Man. Clearly I was not around for all of this so one never knows for sure where ones impressions come from.
Looks like a scene from some third-world country. Hard to believe this is happening in the United States.
In a few days the unheeding Obamas will be in Martha's Vineyard land of wine and roses while their restless base will be getting closer to plucking the grapes of wrath.
The royal couple better enjoy their vacation while they can....it may be their last one for a long time. I have a feeling Madame DeFarge is getting her knitting needles ready for the big show as we post.
