So what happens if the cop does not pursue, the racers continue to race, and then kill an innocent?

You know damn well the survivors of the victim will sue because the cop did not stop the speeder.

I understand what you’re saying. But I don’t think we just let these potential murderers “do their thing” and then knock on their door a few hours later.

I don’t know the numbers nationwide, or even precisely here in Maryland, but most of the deadly motorcycle accidents here are caused by a careless driver turning in front of a motorcycle, or a single mc crash when the rider loses control. I could also add motorcyclists who get killed losing control after being chased by policemen. We also seem to have our fair share of out of control cops.

Seems to me if a motorcyclist does not surrender after a police begins a chase, continuing a chase is a battle of wills with a deadly sentence to some party as a likely outcome.

Not worthy on my book if they can be picked up later, at a time and place of the policemen choosing.

You have to pursue. Once crooks know cops won’t pursue if you go fast enough, it’s over. All the murderers and robbers will just punch it and that’s it they are home free.

You say ‘pick them up later’. Like that’s so easy. Like you just know where they are going to be. Some will get out of dodge. All they have to do is just run again, go too fast, and oh, we’ll just pick them up later, - again.

Many folks may not like it, but it is the safe and sane thing to do. High speed chase is an accident waiting to happen to the innocent and uninvolved until they get caught up in it when the chased flees. If you aren’t being chased you will have a tendency to slow down so other police looking for you are not drawn to your speed. When the officer is able to video the plate, you have got your man, unless the plate is stolen.

Cameras and radios beat the dangerous high speed chase.
