MALIBU, Calif. -- Badly-decomposed remains found in Malibu Creek State Park have been identified as those of missing Cal State Fullerton graduate Mitrice Richardson.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca confirmed on Thursday morning that the remains are that of the 25-year-old.

My heart really goes out to this family because my sister in law (Shirley Geanes) went missing in 2004 and never found her. She was ont of the ones they did a story on in Essence about all the black women that go missing but the media doesn’t publicize it as much as the white women. I pray that all the crap the sherriff’s dept is tryin to hide comes to the light so Mitrice’s family can get the answers they need

I was just wondering what happened to her the other day. i follow a woman, Jasmyne Cannick, that has been following Mitrice’s story. It’s just relly odd that she would just dissappear. There was rumor that her current girlfriend was known to drug her women. I wonder if she’s a suspect?
I hope the family gets the closure they need.

It sickens my heart and strikes a nerve. I have a son who is in his senior year and lives off campus. He is my mouthy one and often raises his REVOLUTIONARY fist a little to offten and a little to loudly. I am concerned that he is going to find himself in a Rodney King reneactment.
I have an 18 year old daughter who is living the campus life, away from home for the first time as a freshman in college. She is like a refugee that just crossed over into the states. All wide eyeed and gulliable. I pray often that in her attempt to explore life that she doesn’t put herself in harms way. It is a constant on my mind when I read these stories.
I work for a university. I often chastise my student workers, both young women in their early 20’s about staying in the office late. They often stay well past 6, working on papers due to the quiteness and the seclussion of the office.
One of my student workers jokes with me, that I don’t have to worry about her becoming a 20/20 segment, because she is a black girl and black girls don’t get coverage.
My heart goes out to this mother. Our children are at times in the FOG of IMMORTALITY and believe that nothing can happen
.
Not to take anything away from Caucaisan Families who loose their children in tragic circumstances. My heart aches for them as well.
But it unfortunante that when its our children there is barely a whisper.
May God place his angels around each of our homes. May he place protecting angels arond each of our children. These things I sincerely ask for.

This young lady was absolutely gorgeous and I believe that some ig’nant and undercover nasty as hell white police officer tried to take advantage of her while she was confused. Poor Mitrice would have fought him like a hellcat and he ended up killing her, whether deliberately or accidentally, then covered it up thinking “she’s a ****” so he can get away with it..white devil!!! I am going to call the FBI General Counsel’s Office about this tomorrow

Exactly - why didnt the parents pick her up... she was mentally unstable. Malibu off the highway is the boonies...its middle of night. Why are her parents pissed at the cops? Why didnt they go get thier sick daughter?? The mother lives in Inglewood - that is in LA by the airport and that time of night there would be no traffic to Malibu. Somethinhg is so weird here....

Her mother said she was going to”teach her a lesson” because of the people she was hanging out with ( her lesbian partner, etc,) . But now it is the cops fault = lawsuit.
You won’t hear about the pot they found in her car or her lesbian partner on Nancy Grace , etc.
Only adding to the aura of her case was the intriguing and perplexing portrait that emerged of Richardson, a Cal State Fullerton graduate who worked as an executive assistant for a freight company in Santa Fe Springs, passed a test to become a substitute teacher, considered being a psychologist, and danced part time at a gay and lesbian club in Long Beach. LAPD investigators believe that she probably was suffering from a severe bipolar disorder.
She was living with her great-grandmother in South Los Angeles — but she also appeared to have been living in her Honda Civic, which was cluttered with clothing, make-up, books and the journals that she kept.
The night that she was arrested, she had shown up alone at Geoffrey’s, charming strangers into allowing her to join their table — but alarming restaurant staffers when she couldn’t pay her bill and spoke of being from Mars.
LAPD homicide investigators combed through her text messages, diaries, MySpace and Facebook pages and speculated that she may not have slept in the five days leading up to the fateful night at Geoffrey’s.
At the sheriff’s station, the jailer who processed Richardson found her cooperative and a little nervous. The jailer chatted about gospel music; Richardson talked about karma. She was booked on two misdemeanor charges — defrauding an innkeeper and possessing less than an ounce of marijuana in her car.
She danced part time at a gay and lesbian club in Long Beach. LAPD investigators believe that she probably was suffering from a severe bipolar disorder.

The whole thing is just sad.
It’s always interesting to just game out what action the critics would have taken. If, as reported, there was a disturbance at the scene, citing and releasing would make no sense because the fight could just start again. If she had no ID, citing and releasing would be stupid because you’d have no assurance she was who she claimed to be. If, as reported, she was intoxicated, you wouldn’t want to let her get in her car and drive off. So what’s the alternative? Take her to the station, get her ID’d properly, cite her, then release her from custody O.R. That’s what they did. Normally, you’d tell her she could stay until her ride arrived, and they did.
Some of the second guessers wanted her detained even though she wanted to leave. She didn’t meet the mental hold guidelines, so you’d be holding someone in custody just because in your opinion she shouldn’t leave on her own. Wait’ll a lawyer got ahold of that!
That is a very interesting comment in your #42. He or she sounds like a level-headed individual, except she has bought into racial victimization.
In reality, the story has more to do with celebrity-ism vs. non-celebrity. This occurred in Malibu, and “stars” do get different, special treatment in their encounters with these same officers.
Wow. Poor girl. She was obviously sick. What a tragic comedy of errors....
counting down to when this becomes a “Law and Order” Los Angles episode......
