Are the Mexican/Americans? there conservative? If they’re assimilating it is one thing, but they are not in many cases, perhaps most cases.

The political bent of the local Mexican population is difficult to gauge.

First, you have to divide "Mexicans" into two parts: Mexican-Americans and Mexicans of recent arrival. Most people forget that Mexicans and Anglos (their catchall term for white people; my family is about as "Anglo" as Mad King Ludwig) have been living together in Texas for almost 500 years, mostly in peace. Mexican-Americans are as American as Abe Lincoln. Their families have been here for generations, and they are completely assimilated. They wear white Stetsons and Sears overalls, and otherwise live, dress, and vote the same way Anglos do. Mexican-Americans tend to be entrepreneurial and middle-class, not radicals.

Mexicans fresh from the river are a different story. Again, they come in two types: norteños, from the northern Mexican states like Nuevo Leon, and indígenas, basically Indians.

Norteños tend to be mestizos (mixed race people). The Indians are largely ethnic Mayans straight from the corn patch in Guerrero. (Few Mexican whites venture north.) The norteños are more or less indistinguishable from working-class Texans; Monterrey is like Dallas South. They come here on the el Conejo bus, work at skilled trades or in small businesses, worship the Cowboys and Rangers, drive Chevy Silverados, and drink Balas Platas ("Silver Bullets", aka Coors Light). They also speak English. Things that are identifiably Mexican, like Tecate, the Spanish language, etc. are considered by them to be hopelessly declassé, the sure sign of the naco.

The Indians are mostly destitute hillbillies who come here fresh from a pyramid somewhere, arriving with no skills (many don't even speak or read Spanish), no money, and no hope. I suspect most of these poor folks end up in California, where there is a welfare system that can support them.

Norteños don't vote. When it comes to politics, they don't know and don't care. The Indians, who knows? I'd guess most of them end up in the welfare army, serving as political cannon fodder for rabble-rousers from LULAC or la Raza.

I'll be honest: by and large, I like Mexico and I like Mexicans. In my experience, most of them really are good, hardworking Christian people. They certainly have turned Oak Cliff around. This former white neighborhood in south Dallas became a bombed-out black ghetto in the 1960s; it's a busy, active Mexican barrio now. Most of the Mexicans from Mexico that I know don't give a hoot about politics. They're interested in tits, NASCAR and baseball, just like working-class Anglos. Their kids are completely assimilated and hate that stupid south-of-the-border stuff.

Unfortunately, even Texas has its radical fringe of race warriors. These types (almost all of whom are American-born, college-educated commies from the upper middle class) make a good living playing the racial politics game. I'd send every one of them to Guantanamo, but I'm mean like that.

I will say that most Mexicans of all types don't see a problem with illegal immigration from Mexico to America. The attitude I perceive most often among them is a combination of "it's all our land, anyway, gringo" and "what was I supposed to do, squat next to a cactus and watch my kids starve?"

The myth of the "lazy Meskin" is just that; I've never met a Mexican from Mexico who was less than an hard worker. Unfortunately, a good many of the Mexicans who come here "go native" and adopt the lazy, promiscuous, thieving ways of our own all-American white trash. They get divorces, have abortions, drive cars sans license or insurance, do meth, and join snake-handling holy-roller churches just like our own trailer park population. Culture? That's what they put in yogurt, right?

Overall, Mexicans in Texas have the same social mix as blacks and white people in America: 5% go-getters, 75% docile sheep, and 20% violent, drunken criminal trash. The latter represents the problem to be solved.

The problem of illegal Mexican immigration isn't the "Mexican" part. It's the "illegal" part.

Please note that all of this is based upon my personal experiences, not upon scientific data. It should all be taken as my personal opinion rather than as fact.
