What I see is that Jefferson believed in the right of Individuals, for whom ALMIGHTY GOD HATH CREATED THE MIND FREE, to use their free mind to seek out the self-evident Truth of their Creator - FOR THEMSELVES - without collective coercion.
John 14:6
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
If that's true, then it should be self-evident.
 
Americans are free to look and decide for themselves.

True that! Plus having our individual rights endowed by God meant that no earthly king nor sovereignty could usurp it!
