When I was in 6th grade the girls got separated out for puberty class, so 12 apparently was the norm in the 70s.

I have friends who work in a Primary school and they tell me every year they have several third grade girls (8-9) start menstruation. Those poor girls, they lose a bit of their childhood having to deal with that.

And thrilling classes those were, I’ll have you know. NOT. Movies from the fifties, I swear. I remember there were only like 2 girls in the whole 6th grade who had started - at least who admitted to it anyway (yep, they asked back then, and no one sued).
