Pat Tillman's mother on Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal: I told you so
Los Angeles Times ^ | August 8, 2010 | Mary Tillman

Mary Tillman speaks on Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal and his role in covering up the truth about her son's death.

Army Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal was forced to retire because of remarks he made to a Rolling Stone reporter. Having read the article that led to his departure, I feel strangely validated. "The Runaway General" described by journalist Michael Hastings is exactly the arrogant individual I believed him to be.

Ya know...........When I was in the Navy....long, long time ago, I was on a Fletcher class Destroyer. Our captain was one of the toughest I have seen, but........I would have followed him into war, any place. Being a commander is not easy. Decisions have to be made to not only protect the men and women but to protect their families. I’d cut the guy some slack. Unless you have been there, you don’t have a leg to stand on when making comments.

Ms. Tillman. Your son was not drafted. Bad things happen in war, both sides.
Time to S T F U Your son might of told you the same thing. He left the NFL to do this. Don’t you think He thought of the possibilities?

I read somewhere that Pat was a communist sympathizer. Don’t the Rangers have ways of detecting that?

I think you better find that source for where you “read somewhere” that Tillman was a “communist sympathizer”, or keep your stinking mouth shut. In any event, your inference that his own brothers-in-arms would deliberately kill Tillman makes me sick. In fact, you make me sick.

Oh yeah Tilman would have said it was okay if the government lied to his Mom about who killed him./s

Wow! So his mom is upset because they lied about his death circumstances and now you attack him?

Tillman volunteered for dangerous combat after 911. He was a hero.

McChrystal supposedly voted for Obama. I don’t think Petraus did.

Please, you can read all kinds of stuff ,doesn't make it true. Pat Tillman gave his life in service to his country, he should be remembered for that, honored, not trashed.

I must admit, that fits the MO of a communist sympathizer: leaves a lucrative job in the NFL w/ all the perks that go with it, to join a squad of elite troops who regularly put themselves in harms way to defend our way of life. Or not.

You’d best have a legitimate source to post before implying Pat Tillman was a communist sympathizer.

I read Mrs tilman’s article...It is so unclear where, if at all, McCrhystal made any “crimes’ as she suggests. He said, they were’nt clear at the time exactly what happened.
I am not so sure they intentionally “lied” to her.

As was said, War is not so neat as a car accident on the freeway, where we can quickly assess all.

I am standing on both legs friend, and I say McChrystal signed his name to a citation he knew was not true. That makes him a liar where I come from. As far as I am concerned he did not have the integrity to lead men into combat, and the US Army is better off without him.

Sadly, the timing of the publishing of her vitriolic, nearly a month after the “firing”, in the run up to the mid-term elections causes me to be deeply suspect of her motives. Of course it is much safer for politicians to run against GWB than to run on a communist coup attempt.
Sorry, the timing cheapens the memory of a brave young man who loved his country.

If anyone cares to read the Pat Tillman Story and articles about him online, they will find that he was a “dyed in the wool” liberal as was his family.

The book sets out what happened on that ridge and it wasn’t pretty but it wasn’t enemy action!

Forgot to add that his hero was Noam Chomsky and he had been in touch with him to meet him when he returned home.

No it wasn’t enemy action, but McChrystal signed a Silver Star citation that said it was. At the time he signed it, the entire chain of command knew the truth including McChrystal. I have never read a thing his mother said so I don’t have an opinion of her. I do know Pat Tillman’s story, and the sacrifices he made make him a hero in my eyes regardless of the circumstances of his death. I have always felt this incident should have ended McChrystal’s career, and I have no sympathy for him or the ignomious way it did end. Sometimes karma is a wonderful thing.

The Tillman episode was worthy of McChrystal’s firing. The facts surrounding his death are likely lost forever, but there is no doubt evidence was destroyed intentionally and a lie put forward to turn his death into propaganda that belied the truth and Tillman’s true feelings about the war and his part in it.

Yep, and so are the Marines and every other US military fighter in that theater. McChrystal voted for Ubama, so how good could his judgment be?
