Bush memoirs delayed, say friends
Drudge/FT ^ | August 4 2010 | Edward Luce

George W. Bush insisted that publication of his forthcoming memoirs, “Decision Points”, which will elaborate on 10 key decisions that the self-dubbed “Decider” took in office, be put back until after the midterm elections, according to people close to the former president.

Mr Bush has maintained a studious silence since leaving office and has declined, in sharp contrast to Dick Cheney, his former vice-president, to criticise Barack Obama, the US president, over the past 18 months.

According to friends of Mr Bush, he resisted plans by the publisher to launch the book in September, which is traditionally a better time to maximise sales.

His friends say that Mr Bush, whose two terms in office remain unpopular among most Americans, did not want to insert himself into the midterm election campaign, where Republicans are expected to make big gains. The book will be published on November 9, a week after the polls. Mr Bush will give his first full interview to NBC on November 8.

You got all of that from my little post.

No, you just happened to be handy.

No matter the republican candidate in 2012 he/she will never be good enough for some on this forum. The drum beat has already started.

Do you also advocate that Sarah Palin disappear until December?! After all, the MSM hates her more than they hate President Bush — and she doesn’t need the money either.

FYI 1: President Bush’s favorables are just as high if not higher that Palin’s:

GALLUP (7/10)
45% favorable: President George W Bush
44% favorable: Sarah Palin

FYI 2: Rasmussen has determined that more people blame Obama for the economy vs President Bush — including a majority of unaffiliated voters.

FYI 3: President Bush’s facebook page has garnered over 300,000 ‘likes’ in under 2 months — not exactly the numbers one would expect from an ‘unpopular’ personality (he dwarfs Rush by comparison). . . BTW: A majority of those posting on this page actually want President Bush to release his book BEFORE not after the election . . . hmmmmmmmmmm.

Yep, Ron ‘I never met a Jew I liked or an earmark I disliked’ Paul couldn’t have written a ‘better’ (read inane) comment.

Thank you.

BTW, I'm sorry you thought I was picking on you.)

I get a headache every time I think of six more years of what we now have in power. Enemies, evil enemies of my beautiful country.

Looking for any reason to bash Bush no matter how illogical. Pay it no mind. Before this people were upset they would get released and blasted Bush saying it would help Democrats and Obama...now that Bush has stepped in against the wishes of the publisher to avoid becoming a campaign issue, they reverse course and attack him for that.

My memory fails me but I have a vague recollection that in the years right after Reagan left office he received a fair amount of bashing from some on the right...
Of course what I really remember is the bitter hatred of him from the left....which continues to this day

Really?! Name one area in which President Reagan was more conservative (in actual deed NOT rhetoric) than President Bush.

NATIONAL DEFENSE and another is Trade. We started loosing ground defense wise under Poppy. We lost even more under Clinton, we lost yet more under W. W has to be the only POTUS in history to downsize the military while at war. Reagan had trade partners. Bush made us Trade Patsies. Worse he used the W.O.T. to push his stinking Trade Policies asking for FTTA. His you are either with us or the terrorist to silence criticism even with the party of his flawed policies spoke volumes as well.

Enjoying The Bush Department of Homeland Security? How do you like it with The One's people running it or his many other intrusive acts and programs? Databases on law abiding citizens behavior and habits anyone? Remember it was the Bush Cabinet who first tried it. What about the Medicare Overhaul which has led to Obama's Nationalized Health Care? The jokes on the GOP on that one. Bill Frist took a Hillary idea and bunch of DEMs created nightmare used to replace Medicaid in Tennessee and gave it to the nation as the new medicare. The Zero took it a step further.. Yippie /sarcasm

Most telling was this. Ronald Reagan despite facing a DEM majority got a considerable part of his conservative agendas through. Bush on the other hand hand picking Liberal Republicans to push them into offices which conservatives could have easilly won. Lamar Alexander being just one of many examples.

My memory fails me but I have a vague recollection that in the years right after Reagan left office he received a fair amount of bashing from some on the right...

Mainly from Neocon Rockefeller GOP Liberals which some consider the right also. George HW Bush was indeed Reagan's biggest mistake. The same Neocons of the Ford then later GHW admin who wasted not a minute in starting to dismantle and give away every gain made under Reagan. Reagan was the last GOP POTUS who was not of that mode. You'll notice by in large Poppy and Junior didn't keep any key Reagan people around but rather instead brought in ones from the Ford administration. Ones who had at best dismal records even under Ford.

Reagan wasn't perfect but he wasn't blathering about 1000 points of light nor about how he and Al Gore were not far apart on most issues either. Poppy and Junior were at best center leaning left within the GOP and tried to distannce themselves from conservatism as much as possible. IOW NWO Globalist.

REALITY CHECK:

TRADE
“It was Reagan who was four square behind the notion of free trade. We had a hell of a time getting Canadian free trade, but we did. Reagan really did that with the force of his personality. That was expanded later to Mexican free trade and what we now call NAFTA. It was Reagan who floated the notion of hemispheric free trade, the notion that at some point in the future Canada, the United States, Mexico, and all of Latin America would be linked into a free trading zone.”
http://www.ronaldreagan.com/experiment.html

NATIONAL DEFENSE
After inheriting a grossly depleted military from Clinton,
President Bush retooled a Cold War-era Defense Department into an agile, flexible, and adaptive organization. The President also INCREASED DEFENSE FUNDING 73 PERCENT — THE LARGEST INCREASE SINCE HARRY TRUMAN’S ADMINISTRATION — to dramatically expand America’s all-volunteer force and purchase advanced technologies, such as unmanned aerial vehicles. http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/infocus/bushrecord/documents/legacybooklet.pdf

BTW: Some have argued that President Reagan’s withdrawal from Lebanon emboldened the radical Islamists and helped establish the predicate for 9/11/01. [And this helped our national defense how?]
-
-
HOMELAND SECURITY
President Bush and his security measures have kept this country safe for almost 10 years . . . ‘nuf said.
-
-
RONALD REAGAN DESPITE FACING A DEM MAJORITY GOT A CONSIDERABLE PART OF HIS CONSERVATIVE AGENDAS THROUGH
Are you including the amnesty bill, multiple tax increases, the debacle with Bork (and arguably Sandra Day O’Connor and Anthony Kennedy), the debacle with Lebanon, and so on.

No president is perfect; however, BOTH Presidents Reagan and George W Bush served their countries with honor and distinction . . . History will remember them well!!

Dr it was in fact Bush/Sec of Def Cheney who started us on the military downturn not Clinton although Clinton did do his damage also. I don't mean W and VP Cheney I mean GHW Bush and Sec of Def Cheney who started the military downsizing and cost us the best U.S. Navy carrier based fighter ever built the F-14.

I'll set you straight on some facts real quick. Bush Sr did over half the USN fleet reductions more came under Clinton and yes even more came under Bush Junior and no I am not making it up either. I look those things up in DOD sites for myself. We are at an all time Naval strength low Doctor. Or we were as of 2008's figures.

But I also ask you to explain to me this? How could Clinton do it with a GOP Two House Majority for 6 of his 8 years in Office? HOW! Did GW Bush help our military? NO! He sat on his sitter during a golden opportunity to restore our military strength and get needed manpower. Worse he chose one of the worse GOP Secretary of Defense in history tied only with Dick Cheney which was Rummy who bungled things so bad during the Ford years.

It may interest you to know Rummy was the designer of the Hollow Carter Military. Rummy left Carter a mess I know because I was active duty. When Junior picked him for Sec of Def I though Oh No Here It Comes Again. The Carter years weren't any kinder but Carter can't by any means be blamed for all the mess military wise. As much as I hate to say it things actually started improving by the end of Carters term to a certain extent. Carter ended a policy Rummy had in effect during his first tenure called the walk away military and tried to do again under Bush JR. When I got to my ship Feb 1977 AWOL and desertion was high especially desertion. You could walk off 31 days and report to another command and be out in a couple of weeks. Carter stopped it. Carter's Sec of Navy also started the Navy on the mend and I saw considerable changes in that direction happen.

As for trade? Reagan said Trade Partners not Trade Patsies and Bush nor his dad cared about the difference between one and the other. I can see FAIR trade with Canada and even Mexico. I can so a certain extent see FAIR trade with China. That however was not Bush policies. Bush's had us up to our years in their families beloved China Trade. I question Bush China dealings father and son as much as I do Bill Clinton's. Do you? Why not you should. Or do you hold a double standard just because of that Magical -R?

Not much of nothing Bush JR did changed the fact we have even our National Guards being called up for second, third, fourth round deployments to Iraq. END TROOP STRENGHTS what did Bush do? When capable eager to serve men were being turned away after 9/11 did Bush even try to ask for more troops> HE&& NO he didn't. He ran the ones we have ragged. You want to tell me that is leadership? in over deployments. He expanded nothing but giving contracts to Dickie's buddies. Just like he made sure Poppy's has beens and RINO's got party support in elections. There was no End Troop increase under mush except less than 10,000.

Homeland Security? You drink that Kool Aide? That too was a make a political position for family friend and it wasn't needed. Do you like it now that Zero has it? Well Do you? I don't but I had enough common sense to realize ELECTIONS HAPPEN!

Did Bush help us any by not going ahead and wiping out Iraq destroying it? Tell me had he not allowed the Generals to do their job and destroy Iraq do you think Iran would be laughing it's tail off building a nuclear device? The war in Iraq should have been measured in months not years. And No I did support Bush Nation Building either. Again another make some folks rich Bush project.

On domestic issues there wasn't much difference between LBJ and GWB. But for todays enlightened Republicans JFK is too conservative for their blood it seems.

Bush policies cost us plenty carrier wise. Poppy/Cheney set up policies that cost us our two newest conventional aircraft carriers.

The downfall of the Bush presidencies both Junior and senior was the abandonment of much of the Reagan Doctrines. That became evident by the very ones both of them chose for key positions and by the ones they supported in congressional and senate races. Bush's never met RINO's they wouldn't support over a conservative. That Doctor is a good part of what cost us a two house majority. Neither Bush was a leader. They were elitist Country Club liberal Republicans.
