Count me among those who’d really like to get a good long look at Barack Obama’s college transcripts — not because I think they would provide evidence for any of the crazy conspiracy talk that infests the fringes of our political discourse, but simply because I want to know what the man studied and what his grades were.
For instance, I’d like to know whether he took any economics and how he did in those classes. I’m also curious about what his literary studies were: especially, I’d like to know whether the man who wrote two self-important memoirs before he’d done much of anything interesting with his life is sufficiently conversant with the concept of hubris that he might take a moment for self-examination — because, as the economy slows and the government debt stacks up, the hubris is not the only thing around here looking Greek and tragic.
I bet he excelled at underwater basket weaving.

Personally, I would settle for some good COMMON SENSE! As my late Father often used to say about Politcs and Political people—All too often, the biggest Fool is an Educated Fool! My Dad was a farmer with an 8th grade education, but he had more Common Sense than anybody I know. My mother who was a College Grad. and schoolteacher for 46 years was smart, but not to the degree he was. When we broke ranks with our Democrat family and both Voted for Ronald Reagan, he made me promise to NOT tell Mama or we’d never hear the end of it!

Heaven help us, I have a 35 year old stepson who has a genius level IQ and had had a computer science degree for four years. He still can’t find a job so he works on a computer here and there and does a web site for someone when he can. He couldn’t manage his own life if he had a job with a six figure income, he would still depend on his mother to handle his affairs for him. For all practical purposes he may as well be retarded, in fact he would have been better off to be retarded, he wouldn’t have the mountain of debt he racked up to get that degree that does him no good whatsoever.

He was a student. I have sat for the bar in three states. In each state, the applicant must submit certified transcripts from both their undergrad and graduate schools prior to sitting for the exam, to say nothing about actually being admitted to the bar.
He has his transcripts, and the state of IL also has copies of his transcripts.

I don't know why he did it. But, the fact of the matter is many people retire or resign or place themselves on voluntary inactive status all the time (the terms can be confusing because each state may have slightly different statuses). I went to one the more "expensive" schools, and yet a sizable percentage of my law school classmates are no longer practicing and therefor assumed voluntary inactive status.
Most people don't realize that maintaining your license requires money, time, and more money. If you're not practicing, there's really no reason to keep it active. And, it is fairly easy and quick to reactivate it should you change your mind, at least in the states that I'm familiar - IL is not one of those states. I would say that a great many of our federal legislators who are lawyers, are no longer licensed to actually practice law.
Finally, I'm not sure when Obama assumed inactive status - was it when he was a full-time legislator, or was it when he was lecturing ConLaw? If it's the later, it's a little more suspicious. You don't have to be a member of a bar in good standing to be a law lecturer, but I don't know many (in fact I don't know any) who aren't.

There's an intellectual exercise which you seem to be unaware of, or incapable of understanding called deductive logic. In this instance, every state bar demands that transcripts be furnished prior to being admitted to the bar. Barack Obama was admitted to the bar - ergo, Barack Obama has submitted his transcripts to the state of IL.
Moreover, Barack Obama was a student at Harvard Law. Barack Obama graduated from Harvard Law. To be accepted to Harvard Law, amongst other things, one must achieve the requisite LSAT score, and must have a four year undergraduate degree from an accredited college - ergo, Barack Obama has an undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college.
