The payment represents $437,500 in one-time sales taxes, plus about $70,000 in annual excise taxes.

And when did Effin' Kerry purchase the 'sailboat' exactly? He may owe a ton more!

Kerry irritated by yacht questions

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) says he will pay all taxes owed on his new $7 million yacht.

“As we’ve said from the beginning, we have always complied with tax laws and we always will,” Kerry said in a statement Tuesday. “We’ve reached out to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue and made clear that, whether owed or not, we intend to pay the equivalent taxes as if the boat’s home-port were currently in Massachusetts. That payment is being made promptly.”

The yacht became a local issue over the weekend after the Boston Herald reported on Friday that Kerry was docking his new family boat in Rhode Island, thus avoiding nearly $500,000 in Massachusetts taxes.

If Kerry were to move the yacht to Massachusetts within six months of its purchase, the state would assume it was bought for in-state use and tax it accordingly. If the boat were to remain in Rhode Island, however, Kerry would not be required to pay Massachusetts taxes.

I think this is very hurtful to him. Even the Boston Globe cites it in an article today accusing the Dems of ostentatious personal spending at a time when many are suffering here.

He also promised to show us his military records.

Has anyone seen them?

Kerry did nothing illegal, but he’s a hypocrite nonetheless.

I think conservatives mostly mishandled this issue as well.

As far as I’m concerned, I think we should APPLAUDE Senator Kerry for doing everything he legally can do to lower his tax bill.

All I ask is that he and the Dems recognize that the rest of us legitimately want to do the same.

Why is it that one lesson Dems never take away from a situation such as this is that TAXES CHANGE BEHAVIOR? They continue to think that they can tax and tax and no one will react in ways to avoid those taxes (legally and illegally).

For example, they impose a monstrous paperwork requirement on small business so as, in their minds, to ensure vendors filling orders over $600 pay taxes. Yet it never occurs to them how many orders will now ring up at $599.

So, personally, I thank Senator Kerry for modeling the true fact that taxes do, indeed, change behavior, and that — no matter how much money one has — it’s human nature for people to want to conserve their money for use as they, not the government, see fit.

Now if only Kerry and the Rats would see that we little people feel the same. Moreover, this is all the Tea Party is about -— saying hey, Washington, we’re sick and tired of your exhorbitant “boat taxes” and we want more of our own money!

Why is a leftist not redistributing his own money and instead buying such an expensive boat? Really, he could house at least 20 on there at minimum.... in this brave new Bolshevik world.

If Lurch did nothing illegal will the state take his payoff? I seriously doubt it, more BS from the elites.

What about the penalties?

About now, he’s gotta be thinking, “If I had not been a Senator, I could have avoided that tax, and no one would have raised a peep, and if they did, then so what?”

Of course, he’ll deduct it from his federal income tax.

“Kerry added that he did nothing legally wrong.”

Yeah, right. But he certainly wants “the rich” to pay their fair share, doesn’t he. (Except himself?)

IMHO

I swear to God this clown is the gift that keeps on giving. Howie Carr was just starting to get dull too (unless you like his “dog shows” and that TV guy - yawn).

I like how he said he was going to register his yacht in MA... yeah right, unfortunately for him “Newport” was painted on it.

John Kerry might be worth having as Senator for the comedy value alone.

"Sen. John Kerry said he always intended to pay taxes in Massachusetts..."

Really? Is there anyone, I mean ANYONE, in the entire world that believes that?

Regardless of who owns it I sure would have loved the job of sailing it from New Zealand to Rhode Island. Any freepers need help moving their boats?

Here’s my take on this.

Let me ask you, Senator Kerry. Don’t you think that the MA taxes on yachts is outrageous? Don’t you think that people would moor their yachts and use the services etc in MA if the taxes weren’t so high? Don’t you think?

These dumb @ss bas*ards are in power and do nothing for us....it doesn’t make a difference who you are.

The lower class pays no tax, cause they’re not stupid...and the middle and upper classes avoid taxation as much as possible..

Out taxes are toooo high...PERIOD
