State Sen. Bill Stouffer says he can beat U.S. Rep. Ike Skelton in the fall

SAINT ROBERT, Mo. (July 28, 2010) — As one of the two leading Republican candidates seeking to replace U.S. Rep. Ike Skelton, who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, State Sen. Bill Stouffer said he rather than former State Rep. Vicki Hartzler or any of the other candidates is best qualified to replace a conservative Democrat with a conservative Republican in Congress. Speaking Wednesday morning at the Sunshine Café in St. Robert, Stouffer said anyone who wants to unseat Skelton after more than three decades needs to be able to understand farmers and rural Democrats. “I think I am the only one who can win in November, and the reason is that I represent Saline, Lafayette and Ray counties out of this district, which are the most populous Democratic counties. I am Ike Skelton’s state senator. Ike gets 83, 85 percent out of those high-population counties,” Stouffer said. “They are Truman Democrats, they are not Pelosi Democrats, and they will vote for a Republican unless you have a relationship with them.” Stouffer said he received 64 percent of the vote in his last State Senate election, nearly 20 points more than the highest-scoring Republican on the statewide ballot. He’s a farmer and former board member of the MFA Cooperative. “They will vote for me. They will not vote for another Republican, and you cannot give up the kind of margins that any other Republican will lose in those three counties and make it up in the rest of the district,” Stouffer said.

minor detail...but just in case anyone is wanting to do a search for more information on these candidates the one candidates’ first name is spelled Vicky rather than “Vicki”.

Aside from that...is there is any real chance of being able to defeat Ike Skelton? He’s a giant in Congress.

Skelton represents what is wrong with Congress. Been there forever, and yet at his old age, he still can’t stay away. You’d think these clowns would tire as they age, they’d get tired of the BS. Instead they just hang around and hang around.

Byrd and Skelton, Teddy, others......reason enough for term limits. Power corrupts, it’s insatiable to these people. Get them out for everyone’s good.

It’s remotely possible to defeat Ike. I’m not voting for him because of his stance on don’t ask don’t tell. Don’t know which Republican I’ll vote for in the primary.

Speaking of elections, the Aug 3 election is very important to Missourians and the entire nation.......

The President and Congress have given us a health care reform package that will force people into government-defined health plans and penalize them for paying for services with cash!

Missouri’s Proposition C, on the August 3 primary ballot, will protect us from those government mandates by expressly stating that the government may not “penalize citizens for refusing to purchase private health insurance or infringe upon the right to offer or accept direct payment for lawful healthcare services.”

Furthermore, the August 3 vote is the FIRST TIME any voters in the country will have the opportunity to vote yes in order to protect their freedom from government regulation.

If you know anyone who lives in Missouri please contact them and tell them to vote YES on Proposition C.

Looks like those two leading candidates have been able to raise a considerable amount of money...indicating there is “blood in the water” so to speak for donors to be ponying up like that.

If Skelton does not win or even appears vulnerable, it would be a sign of a massive landslide nationwide taking root.

Ike’s getting old, he’s too identified with Obama and many folks are seeing the bad stuff coming because of Obama and his idiocy.

We’ll see. Some of those farmers in his district are pretty set in their ways.

I live in Ike’s district which is very conservative. He is anything but. Chances of anyone beating him I’d say are slim and next to none. I’ve never voted for him but yet he keeps getting re-elected.

Got rid of Harold Volkmer, we can get rid of Skelton. 34 years is long enough.

Sarah Steelman tried. Others as well. I’ll never say never, but Ike is frozen in place. And that place is Wash.D.C. Sad to say...

Thanks to all who responded to my pleas here these past few days and contacted their Missouri friends to encourage them to vote for Healthcare Freedom Act, proposition C. Now we must prepare ourselves for the onslaught from our own Federal Government to override the expressed the will of We, the People.

There are questionable exemptions on ObamaCare’s health insurance mandate beginning with page 329 of HR 3590.

Certain religious groups, American Indians, illegal immigrants, hardship cases and prison inmates are exempt from the law. The rest of us are required to pay for all to receive medical care? Can a federal law dictate adherence by only some groups of people but not others? Can someone help me to understand why this law should not be thrown out?
