Why the hell not? I don't see a lot of other stellar characters lining up to save this hell hole of a country. Maybe he has enough money already that he isn't doing it to rape the coffers and get rich. Maybe he actually cares about his people.

Getting more information on the corruption of his earlier charity would be helpful. A lot of celebrities lend their names to things like that without knowing or even caring about the day to day accounting activities. It doesn't mean I'm giving him a pass, just saying that he may not have been elbows deep in the corruption on a personal level.

I hear what you are saying, but this wasn't (or isn't) "old news". Much of the problems and surrounding questions about his charity, Yele Haiti Foundation, came to light very recently, in the immediate aftermath of Haiti's latest tragedy. More can be found here....

Unlike some other problems with celebrity charities - like some of the problems we've seen in the Darfur and Katrina charities - there are allegations, some very substantiated allegations, of Wyclef personally enriching himself with the proceeds from his charity.
