Side note...If the boat was not built in Rhode Island Jean Francois may owe two states for taxes. Apparently if a boat is built and moored in RI no taxes assessed. However since Lurch had the sloop built in NZ he may owe RI some money as well.......

Kerry did not pay the states 6.25 percent sales tax on his 76-foot luxury yacht... Ironically, 76 was also Kerry's undergraduate GPA, if I recall correctly. George Bush's was 77, I believe.

I hope Kerry continues to do this - it is the right thing to do. Individual states have the right to establish their own sales and use tax system. Citizens in this country still have the right to choose where to live or where to shop. Maybe this will send a message to Massachusetts that their tax code is onerous. The cost of the yacht is irrelevant to the principle.
I'll bet he ponies up for political expediency, though.
