The Power of Redemption (Peggy Noonan goes bonkers over "Shakedown" Shirley Sherrod)

She was smeared by right-wing media, condemned by the NAACP, and canned by the Obama administration. It wasn't pretty, what was done this week to Shirley Sherrod.

And maybe something good can come of it. The thought occurred to me after reading her now-famous speech, which is about the power of grace and the possibility of redemption.

Here's a way to get some good. This September, when school begins, we should make the speech required viewing in the nation's high schools.

Obama and the NAACP both waited until after Beck defended her to reverse course.

That is the plain unvarnished truth.

0baMao fired Sherrod for fear of Beck.

If Shirley Sherrod were working for a private charity, or deciding what to do with her own money, it wouldn’t matter one wit that she had problems helping a white farmer.

At the time she was working for a non-profit org created to help black farmers. Just sayin'.

Hmmmm? Seems to me that those in the “right wing” media were very quick to correct their error of jumping to the wrong conclusion, but Peggy? Aren’t there some unanswered questions out there about Ms Sherrod that inquiring minds would like to know?

I’m waiting for Peggy to write a glowing article on Sarah. Maybe she has and I missed it....anybody know?

I’ve come full tilt with her. Used to enjoy her column, now I will brief it before reading it...so as not to waist time.

She was an Obama worshiper...and had sour grapes with Bush/Rove...

I think she has a thinly cloaked anger, when it comes to Tea Partiers...

LIke I said, when she writes something glowing about Sarah I’ll come back to her...

BTW, I think I read where she calls anyone who doubts Obama’s citizenship a wing nut.

You are right on the money. Let’s get to the bottom of this-if she’s telling the truth, there’s unfinshed business-she and her family need justice done.

But I’m not 100% sure she is telling the truth. I want to hear more actual facts-the name of the neighbor/killer she says did it, etc

If I had had any doubts whether my judgment of Sherrod as being an unrepentant bigot was correct, the fact the Noonan claims the opposite pretty much confirms I was right all along.

Thanks for the update! One of the many things I love about this place. Last I heard there was some question as to whether or not he had gotten the whole enchilada. I did know that from the outset he said he posted it to show the reaction of the audience when she talked about having discriminated against a white farmer.

I am just so sick and tired of the racial thing. Absolutely EVERY aspect of life that makes so many minorities unhappy is blamed on racism, specifically racism by the whites.

And I’m sure as long as it continues to get the rise out of conservatives they accuse of it they will continue to use it at every opportunity.

Don't tell me she bought the NAACP's line that they were "snookered" by Conservatives when in fact the NAACP had the whole tape the whole time.

She was fired before the story even aired on the news. The coverage at Fox has been largely sympathetic; her first defender was Glenn Beck who defended her immediately.

She was fired hours before it even broke on FNC.  Glenn Beck didn't even mention it until a day later.  BOR mentioned it (jumped to conclusions), Special Report mentioned it and said they would have more on the story the next day, Hannity jumped to conclusions also, and Greta was the only one who actually aired video. Meanwhile, the NAACP had the video in it's entirety the whole time and they released a statement at 11:55pm that night. Beck defended her only in so far as to say he wanted to see the entire tape and transcript.

I believe that she must have been part of the JournOlist as well as Kathleen Parker. They both supported Obama inexplicably...and now they both have written pieces against Breitbart. They are just following their marching orders to be considered chic and part of the “in” crowd to compensate for all that teenage angst that they never got over. In fact, teenage angst probably explains a lot about the JournOlist members.
